Chapter 3 - The Projection of Truth

I turned toward the massive eighty-foot LED presentation screen towering behind the stage, which had previously displayed the architectural blueprints of Grayson’s new development.

I raised the black remote in my hand and pressed the central button.

The screen flickered once, going black for a tense heartbeat before projecting the exact image Vanessa had texted to my private phone three weeks earlier.

The platinum watch, the crystal glass marked with scarlet lipstick, and the deliberately cropped hotel doorway filled the massive display in crisp 4K resolution.

Murmurs of shock rippled through the audience.

Vanessa’s eyes widened, a sharp gasp catching in her throat.

"As many of you can see," I announced, stepping to the second microphone at the podium, "this is the evidence Miss Monroe sent to my private phone to convince me that my husband spent the night with her in Miami."

"Claire, stop!" Vanessa hissed, lunging to grab my arm, but Grayson stepped smoothly between us, his towering frame blocking her completely.

"Let my wife speak," Grayson said, his voice echoing through the state-of-the-art sound system like a crack of thunder.

I pressed the button again.

The image shifted. The narrow borders expanded outward, dragging the entire room into full view.

The audience gasped collectively as the uncropped photograph revealed the bright afternoon sunlight, the official press banners, the media technicians, and the four conference coordinators standing in the hallway.

A high-resolution zoom box opened in the top right corner, focusing on the large digital wall clock mounted above the door: June 14, 3:42 PM.

Then, beside the photograph, a second split-screen window opened, displaying the verified broadcast footage of Grayson delivering his keynote speech to five thousand people on that exact date and minute.

"Three weeks ago, Miss Monroe staged this photograph in a public press lounge during my husband's keynote address," I explained with icy precision.

"She cropped out the media crew, altered the lighting, and blurred the background to manufacture an intimate encounter that never took place."

Laughter, furious murmurs, and frantic camera shutters erupted across the grand ballroom.

Reporters scrambled to zoom their lenses in on the timestamps, while society matrons shook their heads in utter disbelief.

Vanessa’s face transformed from delicate vulnerability into a pale, horrified mask of pure panic.

"That... that was just a misunderstanding!" Vanessa stammered into her microphone, her voice shrill and cracked.

"Even if the photo was taken earlier, it doesn't change the biological reality! I am six months pregnant with Grayson's child, and no photograph can erase a baby!"
