Chapter 5 - Traitors In The High Tower

The boardroom descended into chaos. Board members shouted over one another, demanding explanations from Elliot Brace, who was visibly trembling as he fumbled with his briefcase.

Damian Vance, however, did not panic. His cold gray eyes locked onto Priya, radiating pure, venomous malice. ""A very clever presentation, Miss Shen,"" Vance said softly, his voice cutting through the noise like a scalpel. ""A brilliant piece of digital theater. But data displayed on an uncertified monitor holds no legal weight. The regulatory filing deadline is eight o'clock. In forty-five minutes, my bank will automatically execute the margin call. Even if your numbers are real, you don't have the institutional standing to freeze the transfer.""

""She doesn't need institutional standing,"" Cass replied, stepping forward and positioning himself between Vance's predatory stare and Priya. ""Because the United States Department of the Treasury already froze your accounts ten minutes ago.""

At that exact moment, the private elevator chimed. Six agents in dark suits bearing federal badges walked into the room, led by an imposing woman with silver hair and a sharp trench coat.

""Special Agent Davis, Financial Crimes Enforcement Network,"" the woman announced, holding up her credentials. ""Damian Vance, Elliot Brace, you are both under arrest for racketeering, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit murder, and interstate corporate extortion.""

Elliot collapsed into his chair, burying his face in his hands. ""I told you she was digging too deep, Vance... I told you she found the second layer...""

""Shut your mouth, you coward,"" Vance hissed, not taking his eyes off Cass.

Federal agents moved in, slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto Elliot's wrists and confiscating his devices. But when two agents approached Vance, the older man slowly raised his hands, a chilling smirk spreading across his face.

""You think this ends here, Cassian?"" Vance whispered as the handcuffs clicked shut around his wrists. ""You think you won because you caught a few offshore wires? My network spans every bank in this hemisphere. Your father thought he was untouchable too, until his car brakes mysteriously failed in Zurich. Watch your back. And you, little analyst... you should have stayed in your cubicle.""

Cass didn't hesitate. He closed the distance in half a step, grabbing Vance by the lapels of his three-piece suit, his eyes burning with lethal fury. ""If you so much as speak her name again, Vance, I will dismantle every foundation your family has built across three continents. You will spend the rest of your miserable life in a maximum-security hole, wishing you had died in this boardroom.""

The federal agents intervened, gently easing Cass back. ""We've got him, Mr. Wren. Let us handle it from here.""

As Vance and Elliot were marched out in handcuffs, the board members sat in stunned, breathless silence. The entire power structure of Castellan Research Partners had been overturned in less than twenty minutes.

Cass turned to face the remaining directors. The cold fury vanished from his posture, replaced by the effortless, commanding aura of a true sovereign leader. ""Castellan Research Partners will undergo a complete internal restructuring effective immediately. Every executive who signed off on Brace’s reconciliation memos without verification is suspended pending independent review.""

""And who will manage the risk department?"" an elderly board member asked hesitantly. ""The morning trading sessions begin in half an hour. We don't have a head of compliance.""

Cass looked over at Priya, who was quietly saving her logs and unhooking her laptop from the projection terminal.

""The position has already been filled,"" Cass announced to the room. ""Priya Shen is the new Chief Risk Officer and Executive Vice President of Castellan. Her word on compliance is final. Anyone who disagrees is welcome to tender their resignation to my office by noon.""

Priya froze, her eyes widening as she looked up at Cass in disbelief. ""Cass... I'm twenty-six. I've been here seven months.""

""You did in thirty-eight days what a hundred senior executives failed to do in ten years,"" Cass said, walking over to her and gently taking the heavy laptop satchel from her uninjured hand. ""You didn't just save nineteen million dollars, Priya. You saved this entire firm. Now come on. We have one more fire to put out.""
