Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Sunrise

Six months later.
The grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel glittered under the glow of crystal chandeliers. The occasion was the annual International Financial Integrity Gala, where the most prominent leaders of global commerce and regulatory institutions gathered.
At the head table sat Priya Shen, stunning in an emerald-green silk evening gown that complemented the delicate gold necklace resting against her collarbone. On her wrist, a slender diamond bracelet covered the faint, faded scar where her ulna had healed perfectly.
Beside her sat Cassian Wren, his hand resting openly over hers on the white linen tablecloth. They were no longer just business partners; their relationship was the talk of the high society world—a partnership forged in fire, built on unyielding trust and profound love.
The master of ceremonies stepped to the podium, tapping his glass. ""Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we present the Global Financial Guardian Award to a woman whose courage, intellect, and incorruptible integrity redefined corporate governance across this nation: the Chief Risk Officer of Castellan Enterprises, Miss Priya Shen.""
Applause thundered across the vast ballroom, a standing ovation from hundreds of industry leaders, federal officials, and board members.
Priya stood up, smiling warmly as Cass pressed a tender kiss to the back of her hand before she walked up the stage. She accepted the heavy crystal award, looking out across the sea of distinguished faces.
""When I started working the overnight shift at two in the morning,"" Priya spoke into the microphone, her voice melodic yet powerful, ""I was told that some systems are simply too large, too powerful, and too complicated to challenge. I was told that when the numbers don't add up, it is better to look away.""
She looked directly across the room, locking eyes with Cass, whose gaze held an ocean of adoration.
""I learned that truth does not depend on the size of an empire,"" she continued. ""It depends on the willingness of people to stand their ground when the darkness is thickest. Transparency is not just an accounting principle; it is a promise we make to each other. And as long as I have a voice, that promise will never be broken.""
The room erupted into another wave of deafening applause as she stepped off the stage.
Later that night, the city hummed quietly beneath them as Cass led Priya up to the rooftop garden of his private estate. The spring breeze was gentle, carrying the scent of blooming jasmine and salty ocean air. Below them, the glittering skyline of New York stretched endlessly into the horizon.
Cass walked over to the edge of the stone terrace, turning to face her. In the soft glow of the garden lanterns, his handsome face was filled with a quiet, breathless reverence.
""You gave an incredible speech tonight,"" he said softly.
""I meant every word,"" she smiled, walking toward him and letting her hands rest against his chest, feeling the steady, powerful rhythm of his heartbeat beneath his tuxedo. ""Especially the part about the people who stand their ground.""
""You changed my life, Priya,"" Cass whispered, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small velvet box. He didn't drop to one knee out of corporate custom; he held it between their hands, his eyes searching hers with complete, raw devotion. ""Six months ago, I was surrounded by ghosts and enemies. You walked into my life, took a bullet for the truth, and taught me how to believe in something real.""
He gently clicked the velvet box open. Inside sat a breathtaking emerald-cut diamond ring, flanked by two sapphire stones that mirrored the exact color of the server LEDs on the night they first met.
""I don't care about the boardrooms, the billions, or the headlines,"" Cass said, his voice trembling slightly with pure emotion. ""I only care about you. Build an empire with me, Priya. Stand with me for the rest of our lives. Marry me.""
Priya felt tears of pure happiness spilling over her eyelashes. She didn't hesitate for a single second.
May you like
""Yes,"" she whispered, her voice ringing clear in the quiet night. ""A thousand times yes, Cass.""
Cass slid the ring onto her finger, its fit absolute perfection. He gathered her into his arms, lifting her off her feet as his lips captured hers in a deep, passionate kiss beneath the starlit sky. The shadows of the past, the broken bones, the dangerous syndicates, and the cold loneliness of the two AM shift were gone forever, replaced by the warm, brilliant sunrise of an unshakeable love."
