Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Ambush

At 8:15 the following morning, the executive boardroom of Sterling Dynamics was packed with twelve senior board members, legal counsels, and financial analysts.
Sitting at the center of the guest side was Arthur Vance, a ruthless, seventy-year-old corporate raider with snow-white hair, wearing a bespoke double-breasted pinstripe suit that screamed old money.
Beside him sat his son, Marcus, looking smug and triumphant once again, convinced that his father's presence would force Vivien to her knees.
""Vivien, this is utter madness!"" Arthur Vance boomed, slamming a gold-trimmed fountain pen onto the mahogany table. ""My son informs me that you tore up a four-hundred-million-dollar merger agreement over a minor squabble with a restaurant server!""
The other board members shifted uncomfortably, several elderly investors exchanging anxious whispers.
""A minor squabble, Arthur?"" Vivien asked calmly, sitting at the head of the table in a sharp navy blazer, sipping her morning tea. ""Your son attempted to intimidate an employee, humiliated our corporate name in public, and threatened to weaponize federal regulatory boards against this company.""
Marcus leaned forward, a vicious sneer curling his upper lip. ""She's deflecting, Dad! She doesn't have the internal logistics architecture to deploy the cloud network without our offshore servers! She’s bluffing to protect her fragile ego!""
""I am never bluffing, Marcus,"" Vivien said, gesturing toward the boardroom doors. ""And as for our logistics security, I would like to introduce the new Director of Corporate Security and Supply Integrity for Sterling Dynamics.""
The double frosted glass doors swung open.
Ryan Carter walked into the room.
He was dressed in an impeccably tailored charcoal-grey Italian wool suit, his dark hair neatly trimmed, his jaw clean-shaven, radiating an aura of disciplined, lethal authority that silenced the entire room in a heartbeat.
Marcus’s eyes nearly popped out of his skull.
He bolted straight out of his chair, pointing a trembling, disbelieving finger at Ryan.
""You?"" Marcus shrieked, his voice cracking into a high-pitched squeak. ""The waiter? Vivien, you hired the damn waiter to run corporate security? This is an absolute farce!""
Arthur Vance frowned in deep confusion, glaring at his son. ""Marcus, what are you babbling about? Who is this man?""
Ryan walked to the front of the room, completely ignoring Marcus's frantic pointing, and laid a sleek leather briefcase on the podium.
""Good morning, gentlemen,"" Ryan spoke, his deep baritone filling the room with effortless command. ""I am Ryan Carter. Former Lieutenant, Office of Naval Intelligence, Special Operations Directorate.""

Ryan clicked a remote control, and the wall screens illuminated with high-resolution financial flowcharts, bank routing slips, and encrypted server logs.
""And for the past six hours,"" Ryan continued, each word landing like an artillery shell, ""my team has been analyzing the Cayman Island shell accounts registered to Vance Equity Partners.""
