Chapter 7 - Reclaiming the Throne

By noon that day, the grand boardroom at the Vale Corporate Tower was packed with every capo, business partner, and associate tied to the family empire. Whispers surged through the room. News of the dramatic confrontation at Bellavere had spread like wildfire through the underworld, but the full extent of the purge remained unknown.
The double doors swung open, and the room snapped into absolute silence.
Adrian Vale walked in, immaculate in a tailored charcoal three-piece suit. But he was not alone. At his side, dressed in an elegant ivory suit with high lapels that subtly concealed her neck, walked Emma Vale. Her head was held high, her posture commanding, her hand tucked securely into the crook of Adrian's arm.
For two years, the men in this room had regarded her as a ghost, a bargaining chip from a bankrupt family meant to be hidden away. Today, she walked with the quiet authority of an empress.
Adrian took his seat at the head of the long mahogany table, pulling out the chair directly to his right and seating Emma before taking his own place. He placed his hands on the polished wood, his father’s heirloom gold signet ring back on his own finger.
""Gentlemen,"" Adrian began, his resonant voice commanding the entire room. ""As many of you have heard, my brother Luca had an unexpected... change of career. His shares in Vale Logistics and all auxiliary ports have been completely liquidated and absorbed into my private trust. Effective immediately, Emma Vale is appointed chairwoman of the Vale Foundation, with full oversight of all philanthropic budgets, real estate developments, and maritime labor unions.""
Several older capos shifted uncomfortably. A veteran lieutenant named Sal, who had handled port operations for thirty years, cleared his throat. ""With respect, Boss... Mrs. Vale has never been involved in family affairs. The unions are rough men. Giving her control over maritime contracts seems... unorthodox.""
Adrian didn't even blink. He looked at Emma and nodded slightly, handing her the floor.
Emma leaned forward, placing her hands flat against the table. Her voice was steady, razor-sharp, and completely devoid of the fear that had imprisoned her for months. ""Mr. Salieri, the maritime contracts have been leaking two hundred thousand dollars a month because Luca was skimming fuel supplies through shell companies registered in New Jersey. I cross-referenced the port manifests with the fuel depot receipts last night while you were sleeping.""
She pushed a neatly organized folder across the table toward the veteran capo. ""Here are the dock numbers, the vessel registrations, and the offshore accounts. The skimming stops today. The dockworkers get their promised healthcare pensions, and the union reps report directly to my office every Tuesday at nine. If any man in this room believes that my kindness or my gender makes me blind to corruption, you are welcome to resign your commission right now. But if you steal from my husband’s empire again, Adrian won't need to hunt you down. I will find you through your own bank statements.""

Sal stared at the folder, his face turning pale as he opened the pages and saw his own hidden signature stamped across the fraudulent fuel receipts. He swallowed hard, snapped the folder shut, and bowed his head respectfully. ""Understood, Mrs. Vale.""
The rest of the capos lowered their eyes in submission. The message was unmistakable: Emma was not a liability. She was the mind behind the throne, and Adrian was the sword that defended her.
