Chapter 10 - To Family

Six months later, the spring sun bathed the grand gardens of the Vale estate in brilliant warmth. The scars of the winter assault had been erased; the stone terraces had been rebuilt, and rows of white hydrangeas and crimson roses bloomed alongside sparkling marble fountains.
A celebration was underway, but it was nothing like the hollow, tense gathering at Bellavere months ago.
There were no corrupt judges looking over their shoulders, no arrogant capos whispering treason, and no fear lingering in the corners. Only loyal men, trusted allies, and close friends laughed and clinked glasses beneath the open sky. Julian, Emma’s brother, sat near the gazebo, looking healthier than ever, laughing with Marco about sports while enjoying the afternoon breeze.
At the center of the terrace, a long wooden table was laden with authentic Italian delicacies, fine wine, and fresh bread.
Adrian stood at the head of the table. He was dressed casually in an open-collared linen shirt, looking relaxed, confident, and genuinely at ease. But what drew everyone's gaze was the woman sitting directly at his right hand.
Emma wore a vibrant emerald-green sundress that left her graceful neck bare to the warm sun. The bruises that had once haunted her throat were completely gone, replaced by flawless, radiant skin. She wore no heavy gold necklaces to hide beneath; she required no armor anymore. Around her neck hung only a tiny, delicate diamond pendant that Adrian had given her on her birthday—light as a feather, sparkling with pure brilliance.
Adrian reached down and gently took Emma’s hand, lacing his fingers through hers. She looked up at him, her eyes bright with love, trust, and an unspoken bond forged through fire.
Adrian raised his crystal wine glass, catching the golden rays of the afternoon sun. The entire garden went quiet, not out of fear, but out of profound respect.
""Two years ago, I thought an empire was built on stone, territory, and fear,"" Adrian said, his voice echoing warmly across the terrace. ""I was a fool. A house built on fear is a prison, and a crown worn in isolation is nothing more than a gilded shackle.""
He turned his gaze toward Emma, his eyes softening with deep, unyielding devotion.
""True strength is having someone worth bleeding for. Someone whose courage illuminates the darkest rooms, and whose presence turns a battlefield into a home. Emma, you saved this family from its own rot, and you saved me from myself.""
Emma’s smile was breathtaking as a tear of pure happiness slipped down her cheek. She stood up beside him, standing shoulder to shoulder with the man she loved, her hand resting firmly over his heart.
Adrian smiled, turning back to the gathered friends and loyal soldiers.

""To the future,"" Adrian proclaimed, lifting his glass high. ""And to family—the ones who truly earn the name.""
Emma raised her glass alongside his. Across the sunlit lawn, every single guest rose to their feet in unison, crystal chiming through the spring air, celebrating the king and queen who had conquered the darkness together."
