Chapter 8 - The King’s Wrath

Adrian didn't hesitate for a fraction of a second.
He reached beneath his seat, pulled out two heavy tactical handguns, and checked the chambers with cold, practiced precision.
"Stay beneath the seat, Isla," Adrian commanded, his eyes blazing with an icy, lethal fire.
"Do not move until I come back for you."
"Adrian, be careful!" I cried, grabbing his wrist.
He paused, looked down at my hand clutching his sleeve, and leaned down, pressing a fierce, possessive kiss against my lips.
"I'm coming back to you," he whispered against my mouth. "Always."
He kicked the passenger door open, using the heavy armored frame as a shield as he stepped into the crossfire.
Gunfire detonated across the narrow road, deafening and relentless.
Through the cracked glass, I watched Adrian move with terrifying military efficiency.
He didn't panic; he advanced like an unstoppable force of nature, returning fire with lethal accuracy while Dante and the rear security guards flanked Mason's mercenaries.
Two of Mason's gunmen dropped within seconds.
Mason panicked, his bravado crumbling instantly as he saw his cousin closing the distance like the angel of death.
Mason turned to flee toward his truck, slipping on the wet asphalt near the cliff's crumbling shoulder.
Adrian closed the gap in three long strides, kicking the rifle from Mason’s hands and slamming him against the rusted guardrail overlooking the black waves two hundred feet below.
"Adrian! Please! We're blood!" Mason shrieked, dangling over the abyss, his boots kicking empty air.
"You lost the right to call me blood the second you touched her," Adrian said, his voice cold as the Atlantic wind.
He struck Mason across the face, shattering his jaw with the same force Mason had used on me, before hauling him back over the rail and throwing him into Dante's waiting zip-ties.

"Lock him in the federal shipping container," Adrian ordered, breathing hard as the remaining mercenaries surrendered their weapons.
"He goes to the federal penitentiary in Maine on federal terrorism charges. He will never see the sun again."
