Chapter 9 - A Seat at the Table

Maya tilted her head in confusion. ""Sir?""

Daniel slid an official corporate document across the desk. At the top was the embossed emblem of Carter Aviation Group, appointing the holder to the newly created office of Executive Director of Corporate Safety and Whistleblower Protection.

""Our company grew too fast,"" Daniel explained with absolute sincerity. ""We built terminals, leased aircraft, and chased quarterly profits while forgetting that aviation is built on one single, non-negotiable principle: absolute trust. Victor was able to bully honest mechanics because our corporate culture allowed fear to silence truth.""

Maya looked at the contract, reading the terms and the staggering salary and stock options outlined on the page. ""Mr. Carter... I’m a flight attendant. I don't have an executive MBA.""

""You have something infinitely more valuable than an MBA, Maya,"" Daniel said firmly. ""You have courage. When you saw that red grounding tag, you didn't look the other way. You didn't prioritize your paycheck over the lives of two hundred strangers. You risked your career, and possibly your life, to slip a folded napkin into the hands of a scruffy stranger because it was the right thing to do.""

He tapped the paper. ""In this role, you answer to nobody except me and the independent safety board. You will have full, unannounced inspection authority over every hangar, every maintenance log, and every executive decree across our entire international network. If you say a plane doesn't fly, it doesn't fly. Period.""

Tears shimmered in Maya's eyes as she touched the official seal. ""I don't know what to say.""

""Say you’ll help me fix what was broken,"" Daniel replied with a gentle smile.

Maya looked up, her spine straightening with newfound confidence. ""I will. On one condition.""

Daniel chuckled, raising an eyebrow. ""You’re negotiating with a billionaire already? What's the condition?""

May you like

""That you never fly economy in a twenty-dollar jacket without telling your security team ever again,"" she said with a dry, knowing smirk.

Daniel laughed—a full, hearty laugh that cleared the lingering tension of the past twelve hours. ""Deal.""
