Chapter 10 - Clear Skies Ahead

Six months later, the spring sun shone brilliantly over Carter International Airport.
At the entrance to Terminal B, a new bronze plaque had been unveiled beside the central fountain, dedicated to the frontline workers whose vigilance guaranteed the safety of millions of travelers each year.
Inside the executive lounge, Daniel Carter stood beside his twenty-four-year-old daughter, Chloe, watching the steady ballet of airliners taking off and landing along the pristine runways. Chloe had recently joined the Carter Foundation, directing resources toward educational scholarships for children of airport ground crews.
""You look much better without the scruffy beard, Dad,"" Chloe teased, nudging his shoulder affectionately.
""That jacket was very comfortable,"" Daniel countered with a grin. ""Cost me twenty dollars at a surplus store.""
""And almost cost you an airline,"" she said softly, squeezing his hand.
Across the tarmac, a brand-new Boeing 787 Dreamliner painted in Carter Aviation’s blue-and-silver livery was being prepped for its inaugural non-stop flight to London. Standing by the forward boarding door was Maya Bennett, dressed in a sharp navy executive blazer, reviewing the digital safety audit on a tablet beside Captain Sterling.
Under Maya’s new whistleblower oversight system, safety reports had increased by four hundred percent, while mechanical incident rates had dropped to the lowest in the history of civil aviation. Carter Aviation Group had become the gold standard of airline safety worldwide, earning commendations from international transport authorities.
Meanwhile, three states away in a federal correctional facility in Florence, Colorado, Victor Hale sat in a drab prison jumpsuit, serving a thirty-five-year sentence for attempted murder, racketeering, and financial crimes, stripped of every cent he had ever stolen.
Daniel’s phone chimed in his pocket. It was a message from Maya: Flight 001 to London cleared. Inspection 100% verified. Clear skies ahead, Chairman.

Daniel typed a quick reply: Have a great flight, Maya. You earned every mile.
He slipped his phone into his pocket and walked arm-in-arm with his daughter through the bustling terminal. Around them, thousands of travelers were reuniting with loved ones, embarking on vacations, and chasing new beginnings, soaring safely through skies made honest once more."
