Chapter 9 - The Boardroom Reckoning

Forty-eight hours later, the grand executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of Song Tower in Atlanta was packed with twenty-four silent, terrified members of the board of directors.
Every major shareholder, senior partner, and corporate counsel had been summoned on emergency notice. Across the center of the massive glass conference table sat three federal prosecutors from the Southern District of New York and two senior special agents from the FBI.
The double doors swung open.
Daniel Song walked in, wearing an immaculate black suit, his head held high. Beside him walked Vivian Park, accompanied by her father, Chairman Park, who carried a stack of newly executed trade agreements.
Behind them walked Janelle Morris, dressed in an elegant dark green dress, holding Elijah in her arms.
A collective gasp swept through the room as Elijah looked around with bright, curious eyes, entirely unbothered by the powerful men and women staring at him in disbelief.
Daniel took his seat at the head of the table. He didn't sit down. He remained standing, placing the decrypted flash drive on the glass table directly in front of the board secretary.
""As of six o'clock this morning,"" Daniel announced, his voice carrying an authority that brooked zero defiance, ""Robert Song has been formally indicted on twenty-two federal counts, including wire fraud, racketeering, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit premeditated murder.""
Several board members turned pale. Two older executives looked down at their hands in utter shame.
""The evidence obtained from Savannah confirms that Robert embezzled over four hundred million dollars from employee retirement portfolios over a twelve-year period,"" Daniel continued. ""Furthermore, the forensic evidence proves beyond any legal doubt that my brother, Min-jae Song, was murdered under Robert’s direct orders.""
Daniel pointed toward Elijah.
""This is Elijah Song. Under the terms of the irrevocable founder's trust established by my grandfather, Min-jae’s thirty-three percent voting stake transfers immediately and unconditionally to his sole surviving lineal descendant.""
The board’s lead attorney stood up, adjusting his glasses with trembling fingers. ""Mr. Song, under the trust provisions, an infant cannot legally exercise voting authority until the age of twenty-one. Who holds the legal guardianship and voting proxy?""
Daniel turned his gaze to Janelle.
Janelle stepped forward, her voice ringing clear and steady through the massive boardroom. ""Before Danielle Whitaker passed away, she executed a legal testamentary nomination appointing me as Elijah’s legal guardian. And this morning, Fulton County Probate Court officially ratified that appointment, with Daniel Song serving as co-trustee of the estate.""
Daniel looked across the table at the frozen executives. ""Between my personal shares, Elijah’s inherited shares, and the sixteen percent controlled by Chairman Park—who has officially renewed our international logistics alliance—we control seventy-four percent of the voting power of this corporation.""
Daniel slammed his palm against the table.
""The board of directors is dissolved effective immediately. All executive bonuses for the past five years are frozen pending forensic review. And fifty million dollars will be transferred today into an independent trust fund established for the widows and families of warehouse personnel impacted by Robert’s embezzlement.""
Daniel turned toward the door. ""Any director who wishes to challenge this motion may speak directly with Special Agent Miller outside. Otherwise, you are dismissed.""
Not a single person moved to speak. One by one, the disgraced executives bowed their heads and quietly filed out of the room.
Vivian Park walked over to Janelle, smiling warmly as she lightly touched Elijah’s small hand. ""He has his father's eyes,"" Vivian said softly. ""You did an incredible thing, Janelle. Both of you.""
""Thank you, Vivian,"" Janelle said, feeling the overwhelming weight of the last three weeks finally lifting off her shoulders.

Vivian turned to Daniel, extending her hand. ""Good luck, Daniel. The company is finally in good hands.""
""Thank you, Vivian,"" Daniel replied, shaking her hand with genuine warmth. ""For everything.""
