Chapter 5 - The Fall of the Sinclairs

Federal agents swarmed the upper level of the Moretti estate within ninety seconds. Blue and red flashing lights painted the snow outside in brilliant, chaotic hues.

Special Agent Miller led the breach team into the master suite, his sidearm drawn, only to find Victor Sinclair and his remaining mercenaries already on their knees with their hands behind their heads. Dante’s private operators stood down smoothly, securing the perimeter with military discipline.

“Victor Sinclair,” Agent Miller barked, snapping zip-ties tightly around the billionaire’s wrists. “You’re under arrest for grand treason, corporate extortion, conspiracy to commit murder, and orchestrating a domestic armed assault. Step up.”

Victor struggled, his face purpling with rage as he glared at Dante. “You think you won, Moretti? You think this diner rat will keep you safe? Your empire is built on blood! The board will eat her alive!”

“My wife just dismantled your entire generational syndicate in forty-eight hours using your own financial records,” Dante said coldly, stepping beside Agent Miller. “She has more strength in her little finger than your entire family ever possessed. Take him away.”

As the agents hauled Victor out, Vanessa shrank against the wall, her red satin gown torn and covered in plaster dust. She looked at Dante with pleading, manic eyes.

“Dante... please,” Vanessa whimpered, tears cutting dark tracks through her heavy mascara. “I did this for us! My father forced me into this! I loved you! She’s nobody, Dante! She doesn't understand your world!”

Isabella leaned against the headboard, holding her swaddled daughter close. Despite her utter physical exhaustion, her voice was razor-sharp.

“Officer,” Isabella called out calmly to an accompanying agent. “Please inspect Ms. Sinclair’s purse.”

Vanessa’s eyes flared with terror. “No! Get away from me!”

An agent confiscated her designer clutch, dumping its contents onto the dresser. Along with personal items, a small glass vial filled with clear liquid clattered onto the marble, alongside a forged medical power of attorney.

Dr. Evans stepped forward, picking up the vial with a gloved hand and sniffing it cautiously. His jaw tightened. “Potassium chloride. A lethal dose. One injection into an IV line would mimic a sudden postpartum cardiac arrest.”

A chilling silence fell over the room.

Dante turned toward Vanessa. The sheer murderous fury in his eyes made even the federal agents take an instinctive step back. He didn't raise his voice; he spoke in a whisper that made the air freeze.

“You intended to murder my wife and steal my daughter.”

“Dante, no! It wasn't for her, it was—”

“If you ever speak my wife’s name again,” Dante said, his voice vibrating with absolute finality, “I will ensure you spend the rest of your natural life in a maximum-security psychiatric facility where the sun never shines. Get her out of my sight before I forget the law exists.”

Vanessa was dragged out screaming and thrashing, her fingernails clawing at the doorframe until the sound of her frantic cries faded down the grand staircase.

Dr. Evans completed his examination of the baby. “Vitals are perfect. Heart rate is strong, lungs are fully expanded. But we need to transport Isabella and the child to Northwestern Memorial immediately to ensure there are no internal complications.”

“The private medical helicopter is waiting on the lawn,” Marco said, nursing his bandaged shoulder with a proud grin. “The airspace is completely secured.”

Dante gently took the bundle from Isabella’s arms, holding his daughter for the very first time. The ruthless titan of Chicago looked down at the tiny, delicate face, his broad shoulders trembling. A single tear escaped his eye, splashing onto the edge of the blanket.

“She looks just like you, Bella,” he whispered, his voice cracking with pure emotion.

May you like

“Her name is Victoria,” Isabella whispered softly, her eyes fluttering with exhaustion. “Because tonight... we won.”
