Chapter 3 - The Bloodline Ledger

Dante reacted with terrifying speed. Before the first gunman could shoulder his rifle, Dante fired twice. The suppressed cracks echoed flatly against the walls, and the first mercenary collapsed instantly. The second man swung his weapon toward Isabella, but Dante charged, slamming his entire weight into the intruder, driving him through the wooden wardrobe. Mirrors shattered in an explosion of silver shards. Dante disarmed the man with a brutal twist of the wrist and eliminated the threat with cold efficiency.

Isabella gasped, clutching her belly as another contraction ripped through her abdomen. Her breath came in ragged, shallow wheezes. The smell of cordite and copper filled the luxurious suite.

Footsteps pounded outside. Marco appeared, dragging an elderly man in a rumpled suit carrying a heavy medical kit.

“I got him, Boss! Dr. Evans is here!” Marco shouted, slamming the heavy reinforced oak doors and throwing the deadbolts.

Dr. Evans rushed to Isabella’s side, dropping his bag and checking her vitals immediately. “She’s in active labor. Cervix is fully dilated. Dante, she cannot be moved down the stairs! This baby is coming within fifteen minutes, or both will go into hypovolemic shock!”

Dante dropped his weapon, instantly rushing to Isabella’s side. He grabbed a clean linen sheet, soaking it in warm water from the adjoining bath, and knelt beside her. “Bella, look at my eyes. Squeeze my hand as hard as you can.”

Isabella gripped his hand with bone-crushing strength. “Dante... if something happens... save our baby. Promise me! Promise me you’ll protect her!”

“Nothing is happening to either of you,” Dante snarled through unshed tears, his voice breaking with fierce conviction. “You hear me? You survive this. We raise her together. You are my wife, Isabella. My only queen. Push!”

Downstairs, the heavy blast doors shuddered under the impact of an explosive charge. Victor Sinclair was using breaching charges to break through the central wing.

“Marco!” Dante barked without looking away from his wife’s pale face. “Hold the corridor. Do not let a single soul cross that threshold!”

“On it, Boss!” Marco racked his shotgun and positioned himself behind an overturned mahogany table in the anteroom.

Dr. Evans prepared the sterile instruments. “Deep breath, Isabella. On three, give me everything you have! One... two... three, push!”

Isabella screamed, the agony tearing through her core. Dante leaned his forehead against hers, chanting words of love, apologies, and fierce promises into her hair. He felt every tremor of her body, his tailored clothes drenched in her sweat and blood.

Outside, a deafening explosion rocked the mansion. Dust rained from the ornate ceiling mouldings. Gunfire erupted in the outer corridor—Marco was firing steadily, shouting commands to the remaining loyal house guards.

Through the chaos, Vanessa Sinclair’s shrill voice cut through the smoke in the hall. “Dante! Open the doors! The board just ratified the emergency transfer! You have nothing left! Sign the surrender, and I’ll have the medics save your child!”

Isabella looked at Dante, her eyes blazing through the exhaustion and tears. The timid diner girl who thought she wasn't good enough for this world was gone. In her place was a mother defending her bloodline.

“Dante,” Isabella panted, her voice fierce despite the agony. “The safe... behind Rose’s portrait... the red folder.”

Dante stared at her, stunned. “What?”

“Three weeks ago... I knew Vanessa was framing you,” Isabella gasped, bearing down through another contraction. “I went into your private study... I found Victor Sinclair’s original extortion letters... and the wire transfers proving Vanessa poisoned your brother five years ago to force the merger. I copied it all onto a hard drive... it’s inside the red folder!”

Dante’s eyes widened in utter disbelief. While he had been trying to shield her in the dark, his supposedly 'fragile' wife had been gathering the exact ammunition needed to wipe out the Sinclair dynasty forever.

“You brilliant, incredible woman,” Dante breathed, awe coloring his voice.

“Now get this baby out of me,” Isabella roared, “so I can watch you destroy them!”
