Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Heart

Six months later, summer had arrived in Chicago, painting Lake Michigan in brilliant shades of turquoise and sapphire.

The grand terrace of the Moretti estate was alive with laughter, soft acoustic jazz, and the scent of blooming jasmine. White linen canopies fluttered gently in the warm breeze. Around the lawn, long banquet tables were filled not with cold corporate titans or deceitful socialites, but with genuine friends, loyal staff, and family.

Rose Bennett sat under the shade of an umbrella, bouncing seven-month-old Victoria on her knee. Victoria wore a soft yellow sundress, giggling wildly as Marco made funny faces to make her laugh. The loyal security chief had made a full recovery, now wearing a light linen jacket over his broad shoulders, acting more like a proud uncle than a bodyguard.

Beside the stone balustrade overlooking the water, Isabella stood holding a glass of iced lemonade. She wore a breezy white silk dress that flattered her curves, her hair glowing with warm golden highlights under the afternoon sun. She was radiant, peaceful, and entirely at home.

Footsteps approached softly across the flagstone terrace.

Warm, strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind. Dante pulled her flush against his chest, resting his chin gently on her shoulder. He inhaled the sweet scent of vanilla and lavender from her hair.

“What are you thinking about?” Dante murmured against her ear.

“I was thinking about the night Victoria was born,” Isabella smiled, leaning back into his embrace, interlacing her fingers with his. “How terrified I was. How cold that bedroom felt.”

Dante kissed the curve of her neck, his touch tender and reverent. “And now?”

“Now it feels like the sun finally came out.”

Dante turned her gently in his arms so he could look down into her warm brown eyes. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, dark velvet box.

Isabella arched an eyebrow playfully. “More jewelry, Mr. Moretti?”

“Not just jewelry,” Dante smiled, opening the box.

Inside rested two simple, perfectly polished gold bands, engraved with intricate floral vines. Between the vines, tiny matching emeralds sparkled—the color of life, hope, and new beginnings.

“Our fifth anniversary was stolen by liars and shadows,” Dante said softly, taking her left hand in his. “I don't want the diamonds reset with apologies. I want these. Simple. Honest. Unbreakable. Just like the woman who saved my soul.”

Isabella looked from the rings to Dante’s face. The harsh lines of tension that once defined him had softened into lines of joy and laughter. The dark, unreachable shadow she had feared six months ago had truly vanished, replaced by the devoted partner who walked beside her as an equal.

“Dante...” she whispered, tears of happiness stinging her eyes.

“Will you renew your vows with me, Bella?” Dante asked, his voice raw with pure love. “In front of everyone who truly matters? Not as a billionaire and his wife, but as two stubborn kids who shared a sandwich on a hospital floor and decided to build an empire out of love?”

Isabella laughed through her tears, throwing her arms around his neck and pulling him down into a deep, passionate kiss that made the entire terrace erupt into cheers and applause.

“Yes,” Isabella whispered against his lips. “A thousand times, yes.”

Across the lawn, little Victoria clapped her tiny hands, her laughter echoing over the sparkling water. Dante took the gold band and slid it onto Isabella’s finger, where it caught the brilliant afternoon sun, perfectly sealed, forever unbroken.
