Chapter 10 - The Queen of Coal Harbour

Julian turned toward her, his expression growing serious and tender. The ruthless kingpin who had terrified the continent's most dangerous cartels looked at Wren with vulnerability in his dark gray eyes.

He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, handcrafted velvet box—not an heirloom from his family’s past, but something entirely new.

He opened it. Resting inside was a breathtaking emerald-cut diamond ring, flanked by two trillion-cut rubies, capturing the dying sunlight in brilliant facets of fire and ice.

""Three years ago, you walked away because you thought my world was too stained with blood,"" Julian said, his deep baritone trembling slightly with honest emotion. ""And you were right. It was dark, and cold, and hollow. But on the night you called my number, when I saw you standing under the hospital lights, battered but unbowed, I realized that my empire meant nothing if I couldn't build a fortress worthy of you.""

Julian took her hand, his thumb stroking the back of her soft knuckles. ""I don't want a subordinate, Wren. I don't want someone who fears my name. I want the only woman who ever saw the man behind the monster. Marry me. Rule this city by my side. Let everyone know that whoever touches you must burn in the fire of both our houses.""

Tears of pure, overwhelming joy welled in Wren’s eyes. There was no hesitation, no doubt, and no fear left in her heart. She leaned forward, throwing her arms around his neck, burying her face into his shoulder.

""Yes,"" she whispered, her voice ringing with absolute certainty. ""Yes, Julian. A thousand times, yes.""

Julian caught her tightly against his chest, lifting her off her feet as he spun her around on the terrace under the emerging canopy of stars. When he set her down, his hands cradled her face, and he captured her lips in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed three years of longing, survival, and unbreakable devotion.

He slid the stunning diamond ring onto her left ring finger. It fit flawlessly, sparkling with incandescent brilliance against her skin—a symbol not of possession, but of sovereignty, love, and ironclad partnership.

Below them, the lights of Vancouver glowed like a sea of diamonds, ships drifted peacefully through the deep black waters of Burrard Inlet, and the quiet murmurs of the city faded into the cool night air. Wren leaned against Julian’s chest, his arm wrapped securely around her waist, her head resting just beneath his jaw.

She had dialed one number in the darkest hour of midnight, seeking only a momentary shelter from the storm. But in the arms of the syndicate king, the abandoned girl had found her justice, her sanctuary, and her throne."
