Chapter 7 - When Masks Shatter on Camera

The Grand Ballroom went so silent that Victoria’s panicked panting sounded like a bellows. Every phone camera in the room was recording. Every flash was illuminating her absolute, humiliating undoing.
""That won't be necessary, Miss Sterling,"" Julian’s voice resonated through the silence, calm, authoritative, and utterly dominant.
Julian pulled a small remote clicker from his pocket and pressed a single button.
Instantly, the massive multimedia projection screens around the ballroom—originally meant to showcase the charity’s annual fundraising video—flickered to life.
Instead of charity work, the screens displayed high-definition security camera footage, audio recordings, and confidential financial audits.
The first screen showed Victoria Sterling meeting with a known fraudster in a private penthouse, laughing openly as she transferred three million dollars of the St. Jude Charity funds into her offshore Cayman accounts.
The accompanying audio boomed over the ballroom's concert-grade speakers:
""Let those poor sick children wait another year. I need to cover my gambling debts in Monaco, and nobody ever audits this charity anyway.""
A horrified roar erupted from the prestigious crowd. Donors, board members, and city officials stood up in utter fury.
""Turn it off! Turn it off right now!"" Victoria shrieked, backing away in terror, her sangria-soaked face twisting in pure panic.
""That’s not all,"" Julian announced coldly, walking toward the center of the hall. ""Screen two, please.""
The second screen displayed Ryan Blake and Victoria Sterling’s father exchanging signed documents in an underground parking garage two days prior. Audio played clearly: Gerald Blake agreeing to pay Victoria a kickback if she convinced her father to approve an unsafe, illegal concrete contract for the city's new public transit line.
Ryan Blake’s face drained completely of color. He collapsed onto his knees on the parquet floor, clutching his broken wrist, trembling uncontrollably as two uniformed federal agents—who had been waiting quietly near the entrance—strode purposefully toward him.
""Ryan Blake,"" the lead FBI agent announced loudly, flashing a golden badge. ""You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit municipal fraud, witness intimidation, and felony stalking.""
""No! No, please, it wasn't me! It was my father! It was Victoria!"" Ryan blubbered, crying openly as the cuffs clicked around his good wrist, dragging him across the floor in full view of the city's elite.
Julian turned his freezing gaze back to Victoria, who was hyperventilating, surrounded by an angry sea of former friends and reporters thrusting microphones directly into her face.
""You wanted to expose someone tonight, Victoria,"" Julian said softly, his voice carrying an unstoppable finality. ""Consider yourself fully exposed. Your assets have been frozen by federal order as of ten minutes ago. Your father's firm is in bankruptcy. You are finished.""
Two police officers stepped up behind Victoria, taking her by the elbows.
May you like
""Victoria Sterling, you are under arrest for grand larceny and wire fraud.""
As Victoria was escorted out in tears, kicking and screaming obscenities through the grand foyer, the ballroom remained in stunned silence.
