Chapter 6 - The Trap at the Docks

The hidden tunnel beneath the wine cellar led out to a boathouse concealed by thick weeping willows at the edge of the private lake. By the time Lorenzo, Sofia, and Mia emerged into the damp evening air, Fausto was already waiting with an armored black SUV, his shoulder roughly bandaged where a bullet had grazed him.
""The villa is secure, Don Lorenzo,"" Fausto reported grimly, breathing heavily. ""Our reinforcements arrived from Milan and eliminated the remaining strike team. But we found something on the lead mercenary’s phone.""
Fausto held up a cracked smartphone displaying an encrypted text exchange. Lorenzo scanned the screen, his blood turning to ice. The message read: If Cattaneo survives the estate raid, execute Plan B at the Genoa warehouse immediately. Kill the hostage.
""What hostage?"" Sofia asked, her voice trembling in the backseat as she clung to Mia.
""Enzo's younger sister,"" Fausto answered quietly. ""Silvio kidnapped her yesterday. That’s how they got the gate codes and patrol blind spots. Enzo didn't betray us for money. He gave them the east wing blind spot because Silvio threatened to carve his sister into pieces.""
Lorenzo clenched his fists so hard his knuckles turned chalk white. Silvio had crossed the sacred boundary of syndicate honor. Attacking a Don was business; kidnapping innocent sisters and sending death squads after toddlers was an atrocity that demanded absolute eradication.
""Where is she being held?"" Lorenzo demanded.
""Pier 14, Genoa,"" Fausto said. ""Silvio’s primary smuggling depot. It's heavily fortified. At least thirty armed men on site.""
""Call the vanguard,"" Lorenzo ordered, climbing into the driver's seat. ""Mobilize every loyal family under the Cattaneo banner. We take the docks tonight.""
""Wait!"" Mia piped up from the booster seat in the back. She was staring out the window, tapping her chin with a plastic walkie-talkie. ""Pier 14 is the fish building with the blue roof?""
Lorenzo glanced back in the rearview mirror. ""Yes. How do you know that?""
""Mama’s cousin worked there last summer,"" Mia said matter-of-factly. ""He told Mama the ice chute connects from the roof directly into the packing freezer. Big people can’t fit through the chute. But little people can.""
Sofia gasped. ""Mia, absolutely not! You are not climbing through any fish chute!""
Lorenzo locked eyes with Fausto in the passenger seat. The docks at Pier 14 were an impenetrable fortress surrounded by razor-wire fences and sniper towers. A frontal assault would result in a bloodbath, and Silvio’s men would execute Enzo's sister the moment the first shot was fired at the gate. But a silent infiltration through the cold-storage ventilation system could disable the security hub from within.
""I will never put our daughter in harm's way, Sofia,"" Lorenzo said softly, reaching back to touch Sofia’s hand. ""She won't go anywhere near the ice chute. But her intelligence just gave us the blueprint to end Silvio Falcone forever.""
Lorenzo pulled out his phone and dialed his chief lieutenant in Turin. ""Gianni. Mobilize fifty men. Heavy armor and tactical gear. Converge on Pier 14 in two hours. We are going to wipe the Falcone name off the map.""

As the SUV roared down the winding mountain road, speeding through the rainy night toward the coastal port of Genoa, Mia adjusted the pin on her oversized black jacket. She looked at her reflection in the dark car window, her grey eyes glittering with fierce determination.
She wasn't just a maid's toddler anymore. She had a client to protect, an innocent girl to rescue, and a family legacy to claim.
