Chapter 10 - Our Beautiful Beginning

Six months later.
The private garden of the Thorne coastal estate was bathed in warm spring sunshine. White roses and hydrangeas bloomed along the stone pathways leading toward a cedar pergola overlooking the turquoise ocean.
There were no armed guards pacing the lawn, no tense radio chatter, no looming shadows of syndicate wars. Roman had dismantled the illegal operations over the winter, transitioning the entire Thorne empire into clean, legitimate logistics, renewable energy, and international shipping—guided expertly by his chief diplomatic advisor and vice president: Norah Vance Thorne.
A soft, melodic cry echoed from the shaded veranda.
Norah sat in a wide wicker rocking chair, wearing a flowing white linen sundress, holding a tiny bundle wrapped in a pale blue blanket. Her heart swelled with a happiness so profound it brought sweet tears to her eyes.
Little Alexander Roman Thorne was two weeks old, possessing his mother's dark hair and his father's striking, inquisitive grey eyes.
Footsteps sounded on the wooden deck. Norah looked up to see Roman walking toward them. He had discarded his tailored suits for a comfortable navy sweater with rolled-up sleeves, his face relaxed and glowing with peace.
He carried a tray with a glass of fresh lemonade and a plate of cut fruit. Setting it on the low table, Roman immediately sank to his knees beside the rocking chair, his eyes fixed on their sleeping son.
""How is he?"" Roman whispered reverently, as if loud words might shatter the magic of the moment.
""He just finished nursing,"" Norah smiled, leaning her head against Roman’s shoulder. ""He has your stubborn chin, you know. He refused to sleep until I walked him around the terrace twice.""
Roman smiled—a breathtaking, carefree smile that transformed his handsome features. He reached out with a scarred, powerful finger, letting the newborn's tiny fist wrap tightly around it.
""He can have my chin,"" Roman murmured, ""as long as he inherits his mother's heart and courage.""
Roman leaned up, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to Norah's lips. The taste of sunshine, love, and absolute security filled her senses. She remembered the terrified girl who had fainted at that crowded gala, clutching an ultrasound photo in a borrowed gown, fearing her life was ruined. She could never have dreamed that the terrifying man who caught her would become her truest sanctuary.
""I signed the final deed for the charitable foundation this morning,"" Roman said softly, resting his hand gently over hers on the baby's blanket. ""The international children's medical fund is officially active in your name.""
Norah looked at him, her eyes shining with adoration. ""You've changed so much, Roman.""
""You changed me, Norah,"" he answered, his voice thick with raw emotion. ""You gave a dangerous man something pure to live for. You gave me a home.""
Alexander made a small, contented sigh in his sleep, shifting comfortably between his parents.

Roman wrapped his arm around Norah’s waist, pulling her and their son close against his solid chest as the ocean breeze danced around them. He looked down at the woman he adored and the child they had created together, whispering the words that had started their journey—this time not as a terrifying claim, but as an eternal promise of love:
""Ours. Forever ours."""
