Chapter 6 - The Bloodline Awakens

""Mr. Moretti,"" Dr. Croft breathed, his voice unsteady as he looked from Dante to the little girl watching from the bedroom door. ""The results are in.""

Dante stood frozen in the middle of the hallway. For a man who had faced down federal indictments, rival cartels, and assassination attempts without blinking, his hands were visibly shaking as he took the thermal paper from the doctor's grip.

At the bottom of the page, highlighted in bold black ink, were the conclusive figures:

Probability of Paternity: 99.98%. First-Degree Biological Match.

Dante stared at the numbers. The ink blurred as tears—the first tears he had allowed himself since the day he lowered a bronze casket into the earth—welled in his dark eyes.

Isla slowly let go of Vivien’s dress. She stepped out into the hallway, her little white sock still bunched around her ankle, the ivory bow in her curls tilted sideways. She walked toward the terrifying man whom everyone else feared, looking up at his towering figure.

""Are you crying because you don't have a mommy either?"" Isla asked softly, tilting her head.

Dante dropped to his knees. The mafia boss, the tyrant of Manhattan’s ports, brought himself down to the child's eye level. He reached out with trembling, scarred fingers and gently tucked a stray brown curl behind her ear, revealing the small crescent birthmark.

""No, little bird,"" Dante whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. ""I am crying because I was lost in the dark for six years... and you just turned on the lights.""

Isla smiled, reaching out her tiny hand to wipe a tear from his rough cheek. ""My mommy Vivien says that when people get lost, they just need someone to hold their hand until they find their house.""

Dante looked up at Vivien, who stood in the doorway, sobbing silently into her hands. The terror that had gripped her was gone, replaced by the profound, overwhelming realization of what had just happened. She had spent five years raising a mafia boss’s daughter with endless love, working two jobs, skipping meals to pay for ballet shoes and pediatric appointments, never knowing that the child in her arms was the true heir to a multi-billion-dollar empire.

""Victor,"" Dante said, his voice regaining its commanding authority, though his eyes remained fixed on Isla. ""Call our legal counsel. Have the estate gates opened. Let the guests go, but send a team to Dr. Kenneth Vance's villa in Grand Cayman. I want Vance in custody before sunrise. He has a very long deposition to give to federal prosecutors.""

""And Adrien, Boss?"" Victor asked from the stairwell.

""Transfer all his banking authorizations to the central trust,"" Dante said coldly. ""Then deliver him to the FBI field office alongside the audio recordings of everything he just confessed to in this room. Let the law tear him apart piece by piece. He doesn't get the mercy of a quick bullet.""
