Chapter 10 - The Promise on the Silk Cushion

That evening, after the last balloon had been popped, the cake cleared away, and the little guests sent home with party bags, the mansion returned to a warm, peaceful quiet.
Isla was sound asleep in her new canopy bed on the third floor, clutching a stuffed velvet bear and snoring softly.
Downstairs, the fireplace crackled, casting a warm amber glow across the great salon. Dante and Vivien sat together on the enormous gold-trimmed sofa. Vivien was curled up against Dante's side, her head resting comfortably on his shoulder, while his arm held her securely against him.
On the small table beside them sat the silver-framed photograph of Isabella. But beside it now stood a new silver frame: a photograph taken that very afternoon, showing Dante, Vivien, and Isla laughing together in the garden, covered in cake frosting and confetti.
Dante looked down at the woman beside him. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box.
Vivien’s breath caught in her throat. She sat up slowly, her heart hammering against her ribs.
Dante opened the box. Inside was a delicate platinum ring set with an emerald surrounded by diamonds—the stone matching the color of Vivien’s eyes.
""Six years ago, I thought my life was over,"" Dante said, his voice deep, rough with emotion, and entirely sincere. ""I locked my heart in a dark room and threw away the key. Then a fearless little girl walked into my life, refused to be intimidated by my shadows, and brought me the greatest gift I could ever imagine. She brought me her mother.""
Tears shimmered in Vivien’s eyes as she looked from the ring to Dante’s face.
""Vivien Bennett,"" Dante continued, taking her left hand in his. ""You saved my daughter's life. You gave her a heart of gold. And you brought light back into this house. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, sharing this seat, and walking beside me for the rest of our days?""
Vivien didn't hesitate. A radiant smile broke across her face as she threw her arms around his neck, burying her face into his shoulder. ""Yes, Dante. A thousand times, yes.""

Dante slipped the ring onto her finger, pulled her close, and kissed her softly beneath the warm light of the chandelier.
The cushion to his left was no longer empty. The ghost had been laid to rest, the truth had brought justice, and the mafia boss who had once ruled through fear was finally home, surrounded by the only thing that truly mattered: love, family, and a future without shadows."
