Chapter 8 - The Wolf and the Queen

The morning broke clear and razor-sharp. The blizzard had ceased, leaving behind five feet of pristine, untouched powder glistening under a freezing blue sky. Inside the cabin, the romantic haze of the night dissolved into cold, strategic calculation.
Pilseong was awake, sitting up against the wall, examining a detailed map of Denver that Elizabeth had pulled from the tactical trunk. ""Gil has set up his command post at the downtown luxury high-rise near the rail terminal,"" Pilseong said, his finger tapping the grid. ""He thinks you're dead in the snow. By noon today, he’s convening an emergency council meeting to assume full control of your assets.""
""He has thirty private contractors holding the perimeter,"" Uuk said, standing over the map, his hand resting naturally on Elizabeth's shoulder. ""Plus twenty loyalists from the old guard. A frontal assault is suicide.""
""Frontal assaults are for amateurs,"" Elizabeth said, her eyes gleaming with the sharp, ruthless intelligence of a veteran special operations commander. ""You don't fight thirty men in a lobby. You cut the head off the snake in the penthouse.""
Pilseong looked at her dubiously. ""The building has biometric security. The freight elevators are locked down during emergency sessions. How do you propose we reach the top floor?""
Elizabeth smiled, a cold, dangerous expression that sent a shiver down even Pilseong's spine. ""The same way I took down your giant rear end, Han. We exploit their arrogance. Won Gil thinks women are decorations or servants. He won't be looking for a maid in a service uniform.""
For the next two hours, they planned the counter-coup. Elizabeth used the satellite phone from her lockbox to contact a single, highly trusted contact from her old military unit—a master logistics operative now working private security in Cheyenne. Within forty minutes, a heavy transport crate containing military-grade electronic jammers, flashbangs, suppressed carbines, and tactical gear was coordinated for a discreet drop point near the city limits.
""If we do this,"" Uuk warned, looking at Elizabeth with deep, protective concern, ""there is no going back. Won Gil’s allies span across three international ports. Once we cross that threshold, you become the target of every ambitious enforcer from here to Seoul.""
""They're welcome to try,"" Elizabeth replied, checking the action on a suppressed submachine gun with effortless familiarity. ""Besides, I already took off my gloves, Uuk. I'm not putting them back on.""
Pilseong struggled to his feet, leaning heavily on a carved wooden cane Elizabeth had whittled for him from a pine branch. He racked the slide of his heavy .45 pistol and looked at Uuk, then bowed his head with profound deference toward Elizabeth.
""I owe you my life, ma'am,"" the giant said with complete solemnity. ""From this moment on, your orders are my law.""
Uuk raised an eyebrow, a smirk touching the corner of his lips. ""Careful, Han. You're swearing loyalty to my future wife.""

""She folded me in four seconds, Boss,"" Pilseong deadpanned. ""I'm just picking the winning side.""
By ten in the morning, the Land Cruiser, cleared of snow and outfitted with chains, rolled quietly down the winding mountain pass, descending like an invisible shadow toward the city below. The Snow Wolf was no longer hunting alone; he had found a queen with claws of steel.
