Chapter 10 - The Queen of Pineglass

Six months later, Pineglass Estate was unrecognizable from the fortress of paranoia it had once been.
The shattered glass had been replaced by reinforced panoramic walls, the marble floors had been restored to their immaculate polish, and the cold, oppressive shadows that once ruled the mountain mansion had been completely eradicated. The estate was filled with the warm, vibrant laughter of a true home.
In the grand garden overlooking the sun-drenched Colorado peaks, three hundred guests sat in elegant rows beneath white satin canopies. Syndicate leaders who had once traded bullets now sat quietly in formal black-tie attire, their weapons checked at the front gates under the watchful, unyielding eyes of Pilseong Han. The giant enforcer, dressed in a custom-tailored navy suit with a silver wolf pin on his lapel, looked across the lawn with the pride of a guard dog watching over an empire that had finally found its peace.
At the altar beneath an arch of white mountain roses, Jang Uuk stood waiting. He wore a crisp, midnight-blue tuxedo, his posture straight, his eyes locked on the French doors of the mansion. The tension that had plagued his jaw for twenty years was gone, replaced by a radiant, nervous anticipation that made the fearsome Snow Wolf look completely human.
The string quartet began playing a soft, beautiful melody.
The doors opened, and Elizabeth walked out onto the stone terrace.
She was breathtaking. Her wedding dress was an exquisite creation of ivory silk that clung to her athletic, graceful silhouette, cascading into a delicate train behind her. There were no traces of the combat boots or the tactical harnesses she had worn in the blizzard, but in the way she held her chin high, the fierce, unshakeable strength of Captain Wescott remained untouched. She walked down the aisle alone, needing no father or guardian to give her away; she was a woman who owned her own destiny.
When she reached the altar, Uuk took both of her hands into his. His fingers were trembling slightly, his eyes shining with open, unabashed adoration.
""You look terrifyingly beautiful,"" he whispered, loud enough for only her to hear.
Elizabeth smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners. ""You look like a man who finally kept his word.""
The minister spoke words of union, duty, and enduring love, but neither Uuk nor Elizabeth needed a sermon to understand the weight of the vows they were taking. They had already pledged their lives to one another in the smoke of an exploding hallway, by the embers of a cast-iron stove, and in the blood-stained snow of the Rockies.
When it came time for the rings, Pilseong stepped forward, presenting a velvet box containing two matching platinum bands etched with the image of a running wolf and an olive branch.
Uuk slid the band onto Elizabeth's left ring finger. He didn't let go of her hand. Instead, he pulled a small object from his tuxedo pocket and placed it gently into her palm.
The guests craned their necks in confusion.
Elizabeth looked down and let out a bright, ringing laugh that echoed across the mountains. Resting in her hand was a brand-new pair of bright yellow cleaning gloves, tied with a delicate silk ribbon.
""What are those for?"" she teased, arching a dark eyebrow.
Uuk smiled, leaning close to her ear. ""A reminder, my queen. That the day you took off your gloves was the day you conquered my heart, my empire, and every wolf that thought I ruled this mountain.""
""You may kiss the bride,"" the minister announced with a broad smile.
May you like
Uuk swept his arms around Elizabeth's waist, lifting her slightly off her feet, and kissed her with all the passion, devotion, and fire that had started in that quiet kitchen pantry months ago. The garden erupted in roaring applause, lead by Pilseong’s thunderous clapping, echoing high into the Colorado sky.
The Snow Wolf had found his match, and the maid who dared to fight for her dignity had become the untouchable ruler of his world."
