Chapter 10 - A Real Family

One year later.

The summer sun beamed down over the sprawling private gardens of the Moretti country estate. Gentle breezes rustled through the blooming hydrangeas and towering oak trees. Laughter echoed across the manicured green lawn.

Emily stood on the stone terrace, wearing a simple, breezy white sundress, holding a pitcher of freshly squeezed lemonade. She watched the scene unfolding in the grass below with a heart so full she thought it might burst.

A small wooden picnic blanket was laid out under the shade of an ancient weeping willow. Sitting on the grass, completely uncaring that his tailored linen trousers were stained with green grass and dirt, was Adrian Moretti. The dreaded billionaire titan was currently wearing a silly plastic tiara on his head, waving a wooden spoon in the air while a chubby, dark-haired one-year-old girl giggled hysterically, crawling all over his broad lap.

“Princess Victoria demands another dance!” Adrian laughed, lifting the toddler high into the air as she squealed with delight, kicking her little bare feet.

Standing nearby was Susan, Emily’s mother. Completely healthy after her heart surgery, her face radiant with happiness, Susan was cutting slices of homemade peach pie, chatting warmly with Marco, who had become a permanent and beloved fixture of their daily lives. The shadow of Vincent Moretti and Richard Hale was long gone—both men were serving life sentences in separate federal penitentiaries, their corruption thoroughly dismantled.

Emily walked down the stone steps onto the lawn. Victoria immediately spotted her and clapped her tiny hands together.

“Mama! Mama!” the little girl babbed, reaching her arms out.

Emily scooped Victoria into her arms, peppering her soft, sun-warmed cheeks with kisses while Victoria giggled against her neck. Adrian rose from the grass, wrapping his strong arms around both of them from behind, resting his chin on Emily’s shoulder.

“You spoil her,” Emily said playfully, turning her head to smile at him.

“She deserves the world,” Adrian whispered back, his dark eyes sparkling with unadulterated love. “And so do you.”

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, worn velvet box.

Emily’s breath caught in her throat.

Adrian stepped around to face her, his expression turning solemn and deeply vulnerable. He didn’t drop to a knee as a boss or a billionaire; he stood before her as a man who had found his salvation in an ordinary waitress with an extraordinary heart.

He opened the box to reveal a flawless, cushion-cut diamond ring flanked by two delicate sapphires—the exact color of Emily’s eyes.

“One year ago, I was a hollow shell living behind stone walls, convinced that love was a weakness,” Adrian said, his voice ringing with pure truth. “Then you walked into my life, carrying our daughter, and you taught me that love is the only power that truly matters. You saved my life, Emily. You gave me a home. You gave me our family.”

Tears of pure happiness spilled over Emily’s cheeks.

Adrian took her hand, sliding the ring onto her finger where it fit like it had been forged for her since the beginning of time.

“Emily Bennett, will you marry me? Will you make me the happiest, luckiest man alive and be my wife forever?”

“Yes,” Emily cried, throwing her free arm around his neck, pulling him into a deep, passionate kiss as little Victoria clapped between them, babbling with joy.

Across the lawn, Susan and Marco cheered and applauded.

The contract that was meant to tear them apart had instead forged an unbreakable bond. Emily was no longer the ordinary, penniless surrogate told she had no right to love her child. She was the queen of Adrian Moretti’s heart, a devoted mother, and the architect of a beautiful, triumphant new life where love finally won."
