Chapter 2 - The Camera Keeps Rolling

Cassandra’s thumb twitched violently, frantically trying to end the live broadcast, but panic made her fumble. Her screen display was flooded with incoming notifications. Viewers were clipping the moment Adrien bowed, reposting it across social media, tagging luxury fashion houses, and spamming the chat with mockery. The comments read: She just bullied the actual owner of the boat, and Rip your career, Cassandra. Her face twisted into an ugly mask of panic and entitlement.
"You trapped me," she spat out, lunging forward half a step before Adrien placed a heavy, calloused hand against her shoulder, stopping her dead in her tracks. "You stood there looking ordinary on purpose! You deliberately ruined my shot so you could humiliate me on my own platform! Do you know how much engagement I lose if this gets out? My agency will kill me!"
"Your agency won't have time to kill you, Miss Vale," a crisp, British voice announced from the spiral staircase.
Julian Vance stepped onto the deck. He was my father’s personal legal counsel, a man whose billable hours cost more than the diamond earrings dangling from Cassandra’s ears. He carried an ultra-thin leather portfolio and had two security guards in crisp white uniforms following directly behind him. Julian adjusted his wire-rimmed glasses, his eyes sweeping across the torn silk of my dress with razor-sharp precision.
"Good evening, Elena," Julian said smoothly, stepping between Cassandra and me. "I see Monaco’s winter entertainment has started early. Captain, did I overhear a breach of guest conduct protocol?"
"A willful assault, Monsieur Vance," Captain Laurent reported without hesitation. "Accompanied by intentional property damage and unauthorized commercial recording aboard a private vessel without the owner's written consent."
Julian opened his portfolio with clinical calm. "Miss Vale, you boarded this yacht as an unverified plus-one of Mr. Donald Hayes, the junior partner of Hayes Marina Logistics. Donald, are you present?"
From the back of the crowd, the young man who had tried to warn Cassandra earlier shrank into the shadows, sweating through his pastel shirt. "Julian... listen, it was just a misunderstanding! Cassandra had too many bellinis at the yacht club lounge before we boarded. She didn't mean any disrespect!"
"Your firm leases dry dock berths numbers four through seven from the Marlowe Maritime Trust, Donald," Julian said evenly, not even looking up from his parchment. "Consider those leases terminated under clause fourteen: gross moral turpitude bringing reputational damage to the primary lessor. Pack your bags tonight. By eight tomorrow morning, your family’s vessels will be towed out of the harbor."

Donald’s knees literally buckled. He turned on Cassandra with wild, frantic eyes. "Are you insane?! You told me she was just a caterer who bumped into your ring light! You ruined my entire family's business for a fifteen-second social media reel!"
Cassandra shook her head frantically, stepping backward until her back hit the polished brass railing of the ship. "Donald, please! Tell them they can't do this! I have two million followers! I can ruin them with one press release!"
