Chapter 10 - Clear Skies Ahead

One month later, the Étoile was cruising smoothly off the coast of Amalfi, cutting through the turquoise waters under a warm Mediterranean sun. The chaos of Monaco felt like a lifetime ago. Cassandra Vale’s viral scandal had run its course, fading from public memory as she returned to an obscure, quiet life far away from the cameras and high-society circles she had desperately craved. Her father’s trial was proceeding, and the restored pension funds had already begun arriving in the bank accounts of the families he had wronged.

I leaned against the polished brass railing on the upper deck, the very spot where my silk dress had been torn a month earlier. A gentle sea breeze ruffled my hair, bringing the sweet scent of lemon groves drifting from the distant cliffs.

Marie walked over, carrying a tray with two fresh glasses of lemonade. "Captain Laurent requests permission to set course for Capri, Chairman Marlowe."

"Permission granted, Marie," I replied with a warm smile.

Captain Laurent stepped out from the bridge wing, offering a crisp salute before adjusting his cap against the bright sun. He looked relaxed, proud, and completely at ease under the clear blue sky.

I pulled the silver compass from my pocket, feeling the cool metal against my palm. The needle swung freely, settling true north with absolute certainty. I had faced humiliation, cruelty, and deceit, but none of it had left a mark on my soul. By refusing to meet malice with hatred, and choosing justice over petty revenge, I hadn't just survived Cassandra Vale's trap—I had claimed my rightful place at the helm of my own destiny.

The engines hummed with quiet, unstoppable power, carrying us smoothly across the endless, sparkling blue sea toward a bright and boundless horizon.
