Chapter 8 - The True Heir Revealed

The entire room went dead silent as I unbuttoned my wool coat and let it slip off my shoulders, draping it over the back of my chair.
I reached into my inner purse, pulled out the certified ultrasound documentation from Dr. Rebecca Lin’s laboratory, and slid the glossy folder across the center of the oak table until it stopped directly in front of Capo Moretti.
""You're wrong, Dominic,"" I said, my voice steady, ringing with an authority I never knew I possessed. ""Luca stopped taking your poisoned medication nine weeks ago. And seven weeks ago, our child was conceived.""
Capo Moretti opened the medical folder. His eyes widened as he examined the official state hospital seal, the timestamped ultrasound imaging showing the distinct outline of a seven-week-old fetus, and the genetic blood screen confirming Luca Varenna as the biological father.
Moretti looked up, his weathered face filled with profound reverence. ""It's true. The bloodline is unbroken.""
He turned the document toward the other eleven capos. One by one, the district bosses leaned in, inspecting the undeniable medical proof.
""A miracle,"" Capo Bianchi whispered, crossing himself. ""Don Vincent’s true grandson.""
""No!"" Julian shrieked, his panic boiling over into madness. He reached behind his back, drawing a concealed chrome revolver and pointing it straight at my chest. ""This family belongs to us! I won't let a bastard street-girl take my empire!""
Time seemed to slow down.
Before Julian’s finger could squeeze the trigger, Luca lunged across the oak table with inhuman speed. With his bare left hand, Luca grabbed the cylinder of Julian's revolver, twisting the younger man’s wrist until the bone snapped with a sickening crack.
Julian shrieked in agony as the gun clattered uselessly onto the table. Luca didn't stop. He grabbed Julian by the throat with his right hand, lifting him completely off his feet, and slammed him face-first onto the concrete floor with brutal force.
""You dared point a gun at my pregnant wife?"" Luca growled, pressing the heavy sole of his boot against Julian’s shattered jaw.
Dominic slumped in his chair, completely broken, watching his son grovel on the bloody floor. ""Luca... please... he is your cousin... blood of your blood...""
""You forgot what blood meant twelve years ago, Dominic,"" Luca replied, his voice devoid of any human mercy. He looked around the table at the twelve capos. ""Gentlemen. Under Article Seven of the Charter, what is the penalty for high treason and plotting against the Don's lineage?""
Capo Moretti stood up slowly, followed by every single capo in the room.
""Death,"" Moretti declared solemnly. ""And the total forfeiture of all assets to the Don's direct bloodline.""

Luca nodded once to Mateo. ""Take them both to the lower holding cells at the docks. Strip them of every dime, every deed, and every offshore account. Let them rot until I decide how they will leave this earth.""
Mateo and four armed soldiers dragged the screaming Julian and the weeping Dominic out of the hall,Dr. Bennett crawling behind them, begging for mercy that would never come.
