Chapter 6 - The Council of Wolves

Inside Warehouse 9, the violence outside was abruptly muted by the thick concrete walls, replaced by a tense, suffocating silence.
The warehouse was cavernous, lit by hanging industrial halogen lamps that cast harsh yellow beams across the polished concrete floor. At the center of the hall stood an enormous circular oak table—the historic council table where Boston's twelve mafia district capos had gathered for over fifty years to settle territorial disputes.
All twelve capos were already seated, flanked by their respective bodyguards. At the head of the table sat Don Dominic Varenna, wearing a smug, triumphant grin, and his son Julian, who was casually sipping bourbon from a crystal tumbler.
When the heavy doors slammed shut behind Luca and me, every head snapped in our direction. Dominic’s smile instantly froze. The glass in Julian’s hand slipped, shattering against the concrete floor.
Luca walked toward the table with measured, deliberate strides. Rainwater dripped from his black hair onto his bruised collarbone, his assault rifle lowered at his side, his trench coat soaked in blood that wasn't his own. He held my hand firmly in his, guiding me directly to the empty seat reserved for the Don of the Varenna family.
""You look surprised to see us, Uncle Dominic,"" Luca said, his voice ringing through the cavernous warehouse with the authority of an executioner. ""Did you think six hired mercenaries on Pier 42 could stop me from attending my own family council?""
The twelve capos exchanged uneasy glances. Capo Moretti, an elderly man with graying hair who had served Luca’s father, frowned deeply. ""Dominic, what is the meaning of this? You told us Luca was delayed and had authorized you to preside over the charter transfer.""
""The boy is unstable!"" Dominic snarled, rising from his chair, his walking cane slamming against the table. ""He arrives covered in blood, dragging his civilian wife into our sacred council chambers! This only proves what I have told you all along: Luca is reckless, emotionally unhinged, and unfit to lead! Under Article Four of the Varenna Family Charter, an heir who cannot provide biological continuity must surrender executive control to the next capable line! My son Julian is prepared to take the oath tonight!""
Julian stood up puffing his chest, trying to look imposing, but his eyes betrayed his terror as Luca’s cold gaze bored into his skull.
""Biological continuity?"" Luca echoed quietly, pulling out a chair and gently seating me at the table. He took his place at the head, placing his loaded weapon directly onto the polished wood. ""You are very eager to invoke my father's charter, Dominic. You spent twelve years building your case on a single foundation: that I am incapable of fathering a child.""
""It is a proven medical fact!"" Dominic yelled, gesturing frantically to the capos around the table. ""Every man here saw the medical reports twelve years ago! The Varenna bloodline ends with you!""

""Is that so?"" Luca smiled—a cold, terrifying smile that chilled the room to sub-zero temperatures.
Luca turned to the side doors of the warehouse. ""Bring him in.""
