Chapter 10 - Love Beyond the Veil

Three years later, the same church bells rang across our quiet town on a crisp spring morning. The sanctuary was decorated not in stark, conventional white, but in vibrant shades of lavender and gold. Guests filled the pews once more, but the atmosphere was light, brimming with pure joy and triumphant laughter. Sophie stood at the back of the chapel, dressed in an elegant ivory gown, holding my hand as Arthur waited by her side.
Down at the altar stood a wonderful, kind-hearted man named Liam—a pediatrician Sophie had met through her charity work, a man whose gentle soul and transparent honesty had completely restored her faith in romance. Standing beside Liam as his trusted groomsman was Daniel. Over the years, Daniel hadn't drifted away; he had become our family’s bedrock, a beloved brother to Sophie and a true son to Arthur and me.

As the wedding march began and the heavy wooden doors swung open, the sunlight flooded the aisle. Right beside the altar, on an antique wooden stand, sat an empty chair draped in the very same lavender dress Daniel had worn three years prior. Atop the fabric rested a single white rose and Emily’s favorite sunglasses. It wasn't a symbol of sorrow, but a seat of honor for the maid of honor who had saved the bride.
When Sophie walked down the aisle, her eyes locked with Daniel’s, and both of them smiled through joyful tears. As she reached the altar, Sophie paused before the empty chair, gently touched the lavender fabric, and whispered, “Thank you, Emily.” There was no anger left, no fear, and no lingering ghosts of betrayal. There was only love—durable, fierce, and entirely triumphant, proving that true love never ends at the grave; it simply finds new, beautiful ways to watch over the ones we leave behind."
