Chapter 8 - The Green Room Confession

Nora reached the heavy mahogany double doors of the private VIP green room, finding seven-year-old Sophie standing outside, trembling uncontrollably, her eyes wide with shock and confusion. Her small wicker basket of rose petals lay overturned on the plush carpet.
Inside the partially open room, the voices were loud, careless, and venomous.
""Stop panicking, Julian! The ceremony starts in two minutes!"" Madeline’s sharp voice hissed. ""Just kiss me and get back down to the altar before Ethan notices you're missing!""
Nora reached down to scoop Sophie into her arms, covering the child's ears against her chest, just as Ethan’s heavy footsteps rounded the corridor. Ethan froze, his eyes widening in horror as he heard the intimate rustle of silk and his best friend’s distinct, smug laugh filtering through the open doorway.
""I have to admit, seeing Calder sweating down there while I’m holding his bride in her thirty-thousand-dollar dress is the greatest high of my life,"" Julian laughed softly, followed by the unmistakable sound of a passionate, wet kiss. ""By next November, we take the trust portfolio, dump the widower, and move to Monaco.""
Ethan’s face drained of all color, instantly turning to stone. The sheer, monstrous scale of the betrayal struck him like a physical blow. The man he had treated like a brother since they were eighteen years old, and the woman he was about to make his daughter’s stepmother, were laughing at his devastation three minutes before his vows.
Ethan didn't shout. He didn't lose control. The deadly, calculating predator that had built Alder Crest Partners took over completely. He walked forward, his footsteps silent, and kicked the heavy mahogany doors wide open.
The doors slammed against the wall with a thunderous crash.
Madeline shrieked, stumbling back against the vanity mirror, her bridal veil crooked, her lipstick violently smeared across her cheek. Julian Vance spun around, his tuxedo tie loosened, his smug expression instantly disintegrating into pure, petrified terror.
""Ethan!"" Madeline gasped, clutching the pearls at her throat, her voice trembling in panicked horror. ""It’s... it’s not what it looks like! Julian was just... he was helping me with my zipper! He forced himself on me!""
""Save your breath, Madeline,"" Nora’s clear, commanding voice rang out from the doorway. Nora stepped forward, holding Sophie safely behind her, and pulled the encrypted flash drive from her pocket, throwing it onto the glass table. ""The complete financial wire logs, the Cayman Island shell accounts, and the liquidated asset agreements are already duplicated. You and Julian planned this for eight months. I have the digital paper trail.""
Julian lunged toward Nora, his face contorted in rage. ""You miserable little—""
Before Julian could take two steps, Ethan moved with blinding speed. He grabbed Julian by the lapels of his midnight-blue tuxedo, lifted him off his feet, and slammed him violently against the mirrored wall, shattering the glass into a spiderweb of cracks.

""If you ever speak to her, or come within a hundred yards of my daughter again,"" Ethan whispered, his voice vibrating with a deadly, quiet fury that made Julian visibly shake, ""I will ensure you spend the next fifteen years of your life in a federal penitentiary for grand larceny and securities fraud. Get out of my sight before I kill you.""
Ethan released him with disgust. Julian scrambled toward the emergency exit without looking back, while Madeline sank to the floor, sobbing hysterically as her multi-million-dollar empire vanished into thin air.
