Chapter 10 - The First Dance

Six months later.

The spring breeze carrying off the East River was gentle and sweet, carrying the scent of blooming cherry blossoms and fresh sea salt. The garden behind Ethan’s newly renovated private brownstone in Brooklyn Heights was bathed in the warm, golden light of a late May sunset.

There were no television cameras. There were no foreign dignitaries, no eight-hundred-dollar floral arches, and no suffocating socialite protocols. Only fifty close friends, trusted colleagues, and Nora’s loving family gathered on the cedar deck, surrounded by fairy lights and simple jars of wild lavender.

Nora Bennett stood on the grass, barefoot, wearing a simple, breathtaking ivory silk slip dress that hugged her curves with effortless grace. Her laughter danced across the lawn as Sophie, wearing a matching floral crown, twirled around her with Barnaby the rabbit—now sporting two secure mother-of-pearl button eyes.

Bennett Events was no longer struggling; it was now one of the most sought-after bespoke event agencies in New York, fully funded and operating with pristine creative independence. But today, Nora wasn't coordinating anything.

Ethan walked toward her across the grass, having discarded his jacket and rolled his white linen sleeves up his forearms. He looked ten years younger, his face radiant with an unburdened, genuine joy that life had finally returned to him.

""You're not wearing shoes, Mrs. Calder,"" Ethan teased, wrapping his strong arms around her waist and pulling her close against his chest.

""I closed the biggest contract of my life without shoes, Ethan,"" Nora whispered with a radiant grin, looping her arms around his neck, feeling his steady, loving heartbeat beneath her fingers. ""I see no reason to start wearing them now.""

From the edge of the deck, an acoustic guitar began to play an intimate, slow melody. Ethan pulled Nora onto the wooden dance floor under the canopy of fairy lights. Sophie ran up and wrapped her arms around both of their waists, completing the circle of their new, unshakeable family.

As Ethan dipped his head and pressed his lips to Nora’s in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed five months of longing and a lifetime of devotion, the small crowd erupted into warm, genuine cheers. Ethan pulled back slightly, his eyes shining with deep emotional fulfillment, resting his forehead against hers.

""Six months ago, I thought I was paying you to save my wedding,"" Ethan whispered into the twilight.

May you like

Nora smiled softly, running her fingers through his dark hair. ""And what did I do?""

""You saved my entire life."""
