Chapter 2 - The Ambush at the Boardroom

At precisely 7:45 a.m., I strode through the gleaming glass lobby of Knox Dynamics Tower. The marble floors and gold-accented pillars that had once stood as monuments to my absolute dominance now felt like the pillars of a mausoleum. The security guards, men who usually bowed their heads in reverent terror whenever I walked past, avoided my gaze. Whispers rippled through the receptionists and junior analysts like wildfire.

The digital morning editions had already broken the scandal. The headlines were plastered across the major financial networks:

TECH TITAN ADRIAN KNOX OUSTED FROM HIS OWN COMPANY AFTER ABANDONING NEWBORN TWINS FOR MISTRESS'S LUXURY REAL ESTATE SPREE.

Tabloid paparazzi had somehow obtained photos of Sienna stepping out onto the Biscayne Bay balcony in a designer robe, juxtaposed against a leaked snapshot of an ambulance idling outside our suburban estate. The market had reacted with brutal efficiency: Knox Dynamics stock was down 14% in pre-market trading.

I took the private executive elevator directly to the 60th-floor boardroom. When the doors slid open, I expected to find my trusted inner circle—men I had made millionaires ten times over. Instead, the long mahogany table was occupied by grim-faced board members, corporate legal teams, and two private security contractors standing at the far end of the room.

Sitting in the chairman's leather seat at the head of the table was not an ally, but Arthur Sterling—Claire’s uncle and the veteran chairman of the Sterling Investment Group. Next to him sat Marcus Vance, his briefcase open, stacks of certified legal documents laid out with surgical precision.

""Adrian,"" Arthur said, his tone devoid of warmth. ""Take a seat at the far end. We have a lot of ground to cover before the opening bell.""

""This is my company, Arthur,"" I snarled, slamming my briefcase onto the table. ""I built Knox Dynamics from a garage software firm into an eighteen-billion-dollar enterprise. You can't strip me of executive authority over a domestic dispute!""

""This ceased to be a domestic dispute the second you utilized Knox Dynamics corporate assets—specifically the company Gulfstream, corporate entertainment accounts, and off-balance-sheet hospitality funds—to facilitate an extramarital affair while ignoring fiduciary duties during an active merger window,"" Marcus Vance interjected, sliding a thick binder across the polished wood.

The cover was stamped with red ink: BREACH OF FIDUCIARY DUTY & MORALITY CLAUSE TRIGGER.

""Under Section 14 of the Sterling Equity Covenant,"" Vance continued, ""any gross reputational negligence or moral turpitude resulting in material damage to Knox Dynamics activates an immediate clawback of the founder's super-voting Class B shares. Claire Knox, as primary trustee of the Sterling Family Trust, has officially executed that clawback as of 5:15 this morning. Her signature is verified. Her voting power is now fifty-two percent. Yours is twelve.""

I gripped the edge of the table, my knuckles turning white. ""Claire signed this? She's barely twenty-four hours postpartum! She went through emergency surgery!""

""She did,"" Arthur replied, his eyes narrowing with pure contempt. ""While you were nursing a hangover in Florida, my niece was recovering from an emergency cesarean section because Eva’s umbilical cord was compressed. The doctors worked for twenty minutes to restart your daughter's breathing. Claire signed these documents with an IV needle taped to the back of her hand, Adrian. She looked me in the eye and said, 'Take everything from him before he destroys my children's future the way he destroyed our marriage.'""

A cold sickness spread through my gut. An emergency C-section. An umbilical cord compression. Eva had nearly suffocated. Claire had faced the absolute terror of losing our baby girl completely alone, surrounded by strangers in scrubs, while I was sleeping in a penthouse five hundred miles away.

""I need to see them,"" I whispered, the defiance draining from my voice. ""Arthur, please. I don't give a damn about the shares. Take the company. Take the stock. Just tell me what hospital they're at. Tell me Eva is okay.""

Arthur leaned forward, his expression carved from stone. ""Eva is breathing on her own now, no thanks to you. But you will not see them. Claire filed an emergency restraining order based on extreme emotional distress and psychological abandonment. The judge granted it an hour ago. If you come within five hundred yards of Claire, Ethan, or Eva, you will be arrested on sight.""

""She can't keep me from my children!"" I roared, lunging forward, but the two private security guards immediately stepped between me and the table.

May you like

""You gave up the right to call yourself a father when you turned your phone facedown at 3:15 a.m.,"" Arthur said coldly. ""Security will escort you from the building. Your personal effects from the CEO suite will be boxed and delivered to a storage locker. Effective immediately, you are suspended as Chief Executive Officer without pay. Have a good morning, Adrian.""

As the guards took my arms, I didn't fight them. I couldn't. The weight of my own sins was heavier than any physical force they could exert. I was led out through the very hallways I had built, past the staring eyes of three hundred employees who now looked at me not with admiration, but with sheer disgust.
