Chapter 10 - The Vow on the Shoreline

One year later.

The summer sun cast a shimmering golden hue over the Atlantic coastline of Oakhaven. The quaint weatherboard cottage on the bluff had not been sold. Instead, Gideon had purchased the entire surrounding headland, preserving the peaceful, wild landscape Evelyn had fallen in love with.

On the manicured lawn overlooking the sparkling ocean, a white wooden crib sat beneath the shade of a blossoming hydrangea arbor.

Ten-month-old Leo Vale sat inside, happily banging a wooden rattle against a soft stuffed bear, his bright gray eyes—the exact mirror of his father’s—watching the seagulls glide across the blue sky.

Nearby, the sound of rhythmic, steady footsteps crunching on the gravel path drew his attention.

Evelyn walked up the gentle incline from the beach.

She did not use a wheelchair. She did not use crutches.

Her right hand lightly held a polished mahogany cane—a gift custom-crafted by Gideon with an ivy leaf carved into the silver grip—but her stride was confident, elegant, and completely unsupported. The months of intense rehabilitation, fueled by the joy of motherhood and the boundless patience of the man walking beside her, had unlocked what doctors had called an impossibility.

Gideon walked at her side, carrying a wicker picnic basket in one hand, his other arm hovering gently behind her waist, ready to steady her if the ocean breeze caught her off guard.

His dark hair was windswept, his tailored linen shirt open at the collar. The cold, forbidding aura that had once defined Gideon Vale had vanished, replaced by the calm, radiant strength of a man who knew his soul was entirely at peace.

""Look who's awake,"" Evelyn smiled, her face glowing with health and happiness as she approached the crib.

Leo let out a squeal of pure delight, holding up his chubby arms.

Gideon dropped the picnic basket and lifted his son into the air, spinning him gently while Leo erupted into giggles. The ruthless billionaire nuzzled the baby’s neck, completely unconcerned as Leo grabbed a handful of his dark hair.

""He gets stronger every day,"" Gideon said, turning to look at his wife. ""Just like his mother.""

Evelyn leaned against Gideon’s shoulder, resting her head against his chest. She listened to the deep, steady beat of his heart—the same heart she had saved from the flames, the same heart that had taken two bullets to shield her and their boy.

""Hayes called this morning,"" Gideon mentioned softly, his arm wrapping around Evelyn’s waist, drawing her close against his side. ""The Blackridge renovations are officially complete. The east wing has been converted into the public architecture foundation under your name. The gates have been taken down. No more guards. No more locked corridors.""

Evelyn looked out at the rolling waves, feeling the warm ocean breeze caress her skin.

""We'll visit for the ribbon-cutting,"" she said, looking up into his dark eyes with a tender smile. ""But this is our home, Gideon. Here. Where we found each other again.""

""Wherever you are, Evie,"" he murmured, his voice thick with raw, unvarnished devotion. ""That is my only home.""

He handed Leo into her arms, then reached into his pocket, pulling out a small velvet box.

Evelyn paused, her breath catching. ""Gideon?""

Gideon took her left hand, gently taking the original wedding band she had left on the desk in Blackridge a year and a half ago. Beside it, he slid a new ring onto her finger—a platinum band intricately woven with diamond ivy leaves that wrapped around the original gold.

""No debts,"" Gideon whispered, looking deeply into the eyes of the woman who owned his world. ""No guilt. No obligations. Just an ordinary man asking an extraordinary woman to love him for the rest of his days.""

Evelyn held their son close with one arm, while her other hand reached up to cup Gideon’s jawline, her fingers tracing the scar near his ear.

May you like

""I love you, Gideon,"" she whispered, the words sealing the past and welcoming the bright, boundless future ahead. ""I always have.""

Gideon smiled—a true, radiant smile that reached his eyes—and leaned down, capturing her lips in a deep, passionate kiss beneath the warm Atlantic sun, while their son giggled between them, and the ocean carried away the last remaining whispers of their storm."
