Chapter 10 - The Queen of the Empire

Six months later.

The morning sun washed over the sprawling green lawn of a private estate in the rolling hills of Westchester, New York. Far removed from the grime and violence of the city docks, the air smelled of sweet pine, fresh-cut grass, and blooming jasmine.

On the stone terrace overlooking the gardens, nineteen-year-old Tommy Elmore sat in a specialized electric wheelchair, laughing as he tossed a tennis ball across the lawn for a golden retriever to chase. His speech was slow, but his eyes were bright, alert, and full of life. The experimental peptide therapy, funded entirely by Deari’s open medical trust, had performed miracles. His motor functions were returning, his cognitive faculties were stable, and two private physical therapists were working with him daily.

Standing by the terrace railing, Caitlyn watched her brother with a radiant smile on her face. She wore an ivory summer dress, her chestnut hair blowing softly in the gentle morning breeze. On her left ring finger, a flawless five-carat emerald-cut diamond caught the sunlight, flashing brilliant prisms of light across the stone patio.

A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped securely around her waist from behind.

Deari rested his chin against the top of her head, breathing in the scent of her hair. He wore a crisp white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up, looking relaxed, tanned, and healthier than he had in a decade. The cold, ruthless tension that had once permanently lined his face had softened into the quiet contentment of a man who had won his war and secured his peace.

""He threw the ball twenty feet today,"" Caitlyn murmured, leaning back against his chest, placing her hands over his. ""Dr. Vance says he might be walking with crutches by Christmas.""

""I know,"" Deari replied, his deep voice rumbling against her back. ""I had his physical therapy team double their equipment budget this morning.""

Caitlyn turned in his embrace, looking up at her husband with an amused, loving smile. ""You're spoiling him, Mr. Hamilton.""

""He's my brother-in-law,"" Deari countered with an arrogant smirk, brushing a stray lock of hair behind her ear. ""And the brother of the woman who owns me. He gets whatever he wants.""

The underworld of New York had changed dramatically over the last half-year. Vincent Moretti had fled to Italy, his syndicate dismantled and absorbed entirely under Hamilton control. But under Caitlyn’s influence, Deari had systematically transitioned the empire out of the shadows. The illegal bookmaking and harbor extortion were gone, replaced by fully legitimate maritime logistics, green energy shipping contracts, and massive commercial real estate holdings.

Deari was no longer a feared mob boss hiding behind corporate fronts. He had become the legitimate titan of industry he had always envisioned, with Caitlyn sitting beside him as the Chief Executive Vice President of Hamilton Enterprises—and the undisputed queen of his heart.

A sharp knock sounded against the French terrace doors.

A newly promoted head of security, dressed in a sharp navy suit, stepped onto the patio, holding an encrypted leather folder. He bowed his head respectfully toward both of them.

""Excuse me, Mr. Hamilton. Mrs. Hamilton,"" the man said politely. ""The board of directors is assembled in the Manhattan conference room for the harbor expansion vote. The helicopter is fueled and waiting at the helipad whenever you are ready.""

Deari looked down at Caitlyn, raising an eyebrow with a playful smirk. ""Well, Mrs. Hamilton? Do we have time to conquer another shipping conglomerate today, or are you too busy watching the dog?""

Caitlyn laughed softly, rising up on her tiptoes to press a sweet, lingering kiss to his lips.

May you like

""The board can wait twenty minutes,"" she whispered against his mouth. ""The boss needs to finish his coffee.""

Deari smiled—a warm, radiant smile that belonged only to her—and pulled her tight against his chest, watching the sun rise over the empire they had built together out of blood, loyalty, and an accidental moment of sleep on an airplane shoulder."
