Chapter 8 - The Plot to Sabotage

The public exposure at the block party shattered whatever remained of Patricia’s sanity. Rather than accepting her defeat and humbling herself, her humiliation curdled into pure, venomous malice. Locked inside the basement with Kyle and Brittany late that night, Patricia hatched a desperate, reckless scheme to destroy me. In her warped, narcissistic mind, if she couldn't own the house, nobody would. Furthermore, she believed that if she could orchestrate a catastrophic structural disaster or claim that I had engaged in corporate fraud, she could drag Phoenix Holdings into an ugly, protracted lawsuit, force a settlement, and walk away with millions of dollars in insurance money.
""He's just a arrogant little kid with lucky computer money,"" Patricia hissed in the dark, her voice trembling with manic desperation as Kyle and Brittany listened intently. ""He doesn't know how the real world works. If the house suffers major, catastrophic water and electrical damage while he is legally designated as the sole on-site property manager, the corporate insurance policy will be held liable for criminal negligence. We can claim he created an unsafe living environment, file a massive personal injury and property lawsuit, and freeze all his assets in court! We can break him!"" Kyle grinned wickedly, his bruised ego hungry for revenge. ""I know how to disable the main water pressure regulator in the crawlspace. If we jam the relief valve and crack the upstairs master bathroom pipes while he's out at his meetings tomorrow, the whole second floor will flood through the ceiling. It'll cause hundreds of thousands in damage.""

What the three of them were completely oblivious to was the cutting-edge enterprise security and surveillance network I had personally installed throughout the house the day after I took possession of the master suite. Hidden 4K micro-cameras and military-grade audio sensors were integrated seamlessly into every smoke detector, hallway vent, and electrical junction box, streaming high-definition encrypted footage directly to a secure cloud server and my personal smartphone. Sitting at a quiet rooftop restaurant downtown having lunch with Marcus Vance, I watched the live video feed on my tablet in crystal-clear detail. I listened to every single word of their conspiracy, watching Kyle sketch out the plumbing diagrams on a napkin while Patricia laughed like a manic villain.
""Should I call the police department immediately, Alex?"" Marcus asked, his jaw tight with professional outrage as he watched the recording of their criminal conspiracy. ""We have them dead to rights on felony conspiracy to commit arson, insurance fraud, and grand vandalism. They could face five to ten years in state prison for this."" I took a slow sip of sparkling water, watching Kyle nod eagerly on the screen. ""Not yet, Marcus,"" I replied calmly, setting my glass down on the white tablecloth. ""Let them commit the overt act. Let them walk right into the trap they're digging with their own hands. When the hammer falls, I want to make sure it destroys their delusions forever.""
