Chapter 10 - Harmony in the High-Rise

Six months later, the 40th floor of Moretti Headquarters in Manhattan looked entirely transformed. The laminated glass in the corner boardroom had been replaced with quadruple-pane ballistic ceramic crystal, and the interior had been acoustically redesigned to Clare Bennett’s exact specifications.

The morning sun streamed across the polished mahogany table where thirty international executives sat in complete silence, reviewing quarterly reports.

At the head of the table stood Adrien Moretti, commanding, powerful, and relaxed. But he wasn't standing near the window anymore. He stood beside Clare, who wore an elegant tailored emerald blazer, her hand completely healed, holding the master tablet that governed the firm’s global communications.

"The merger with the European maritime trust is complete," Clare announced to the board, her voice clear, confident, and commanding absolute respect. "Security protocols across all seventeen international shipping hubs have been upgraded to Level 5 encrypted audio-mesh. There are no blind spots, no unmonitored frequencies, and no inside conduits."

The board members nodded in unison, murmuring unanimous approval before filing out of the room when the meeting concluded.

When the heavy oak doors clicked shut, leaving only the two of them in the vast corner office, Adrien leaned back against the desk and smiled at her.

"You run this company better than I ever did," he admitted, unbuttoning his vest.

"That's because I listen to what people don't say," Clare teased, stepping up beside him and setting her tablet down.

Adrien reached out, gently wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her into his embrace. The professional distance that had once defined their relationship had long since dissolved, replaced by a deep, unbreakable bond forged in fire, danger, and mutual trust.

"Marcus told me the wedding venue upstate is fully secured," Adrien murmured, brushing a strand of dark hair from her face. "Three concentric security perimeters, acoustic sensors around the entire lake, and zero unauthorized frequencies."

Clare laughed, resting her hands against his chest. "Adrien, it's a wedding, not an international summit."

"When the woman marrying me is the one who saved my life, it's the most important summit in history," he replied softly, leaning down until his lips gently brushed hers.

The kiss was slow, passionate, and filled with the promise of a peaceful future they had fought side by side to earn.

Through the reinforced glass of the Manhattan skyline, the city bustled below in harmony—a chaotic world of noise and ambition. But inside the room, in Adrien’s arms, Clare finally heard the only sound that truly mattered: the steady, calm beating of his heart against hers.
