Chapter 9 - Justice in the Rain

Wind and rain whipped violently across the rooftop helipad of Westbridge Tower. The city of Los Angeles stretched out into the stormy abyss below, an ocean of blurred neon lights.

A twin-engine helicopter hovered fifty feet above the landing pad, its searchlight cutting through the torrential downpour. Victor Seo was sprinting across the wet asphalt toward the lowering landing skids, clutching a waterproof briefcase packed with bearer bonds and false passports.

“Victor!” Daniel’s voice pierced through the roaring engine blades.

Victor spun around, terror contorting his soaked features. He raised a small automatic pistol, firing wild shots through the sheets of rain. Daniel and Rachel advanced steadily, spreading out to eliminate his angles. Daniel didn't flinch as a round clipped his shoulder, tearing through his suit fabric. He raised his weapon and fired a single shot into Victor’s right knee.

Victor collapsed with an agonizing howl, dropping his briefcase as the papers inside scattered into the violent wind, fluttering away into the night sky like useless leaves.

The helicopter pilot, realizing the contract was lost and seeing Daniel’s laser sight aiming directly at the cockpit glass, pulled up on the collective and banked hard into the storm, abandoning Victor on the wet concrete.

Victor dragged himself backward against the perimeter safety railing, clutching his shattered leg. Rain washed the blood down into the roof drains. “Daniel... please! I'm your father’s brother! We share the same blood!”

“You forfeited your blood when you sent killers after a five-year-old girl and boy,” Daniel said, his voice as cold as the Arctic wind. He stood over his uncle, the barrel of his gun steady between Victor’s eyes.

“If you kill me... the council will never let you live in peace!” Victor choked out, desperate.

“The council already watched your confession, Victor,” Rachel said, walking up beside Daniel, her clothes soaked, her eyes steady. “Chairman Kang signed your warrant ten minutes ago. You are nothing now. No empire. No money. No family.”

Victor slumped against the rail, broken and utterly defeated. The grand master of shadows had been dismantled not by an opposing mafia cartel, but by the very family he tried to rip apart.

Sirens wailed in the distance below. Three black SUVs filled with Council enforcers and state authorities pulled into the building perimeter to take Victor into lifelong federal custody.

Daniel lowered his weapon, clicking the safety on. He looked down at the pathetic man on the ground with nothing but pity. “Get him out of my sight.”
