Chapter 5 - The Council Assembles

By Thursday morning, the underworld of the West Coast was on edge. Rumors had leaked through the docks that Daniel Seo had mobilized two hundred private security contractors and revoked all access codes to the Long Beach container terminals.

In the grand underground hall of the Korean-American Cultural Center in Koreatown—a front for the historic Silver Crane Council—seven elderly syndicate bosses sat along a crescent-shaped rosewood table. The room smelled of incense, old leather, and quiet, violent authority.

At the far end of the room stood Victor Seo, wearing a pristine white bandage along his left temple. He was surrounded by four high-priced corporate attorneys and two council elders who owed him millions in gambling debts.

The heavy double doors swung open.

Daniel entered alone. He wore an immaculate bespoke black three-piece suit, his gold crane lapel pin catching the dim chandelier light. His stride was slow, deliberate, and terrifyingly calm. He didn't bow to the elders. He took his place at the center lectern.

“You have called an emergency session outside protocol, Victor,” Daniel stated, his cold eyes scanning the table. “Explain yourself before I exercise my right as Supreme Overseer to adjourn.”

Victor stepped forward, slamming a thick leather dossier onto the table. “I call for your immediate removal, Daniel! For five years, this council has suspected that the leak of our seventy-million-dollar maritime fund was an inside job. We blamed Rachel Park. But two days ago, Rachel Park reappeared—rescued by Daniel’s private death squad in Vernon!”

Murmurs broke out among the elders. Chairman Kang, an eighty-year-old patriarch with milky eyes and a walking stick, raised a hand for silence. “Is this true, Daniel?”

“Rachel Park is alive,” Daniel answered without hesitation. “And she is under my absolute protection.”

“She is a thief who stole from this table!” Victor roared, his veins bulging against his collar. “And worse—Daniel has brought two unidentified street children into the executive vaults of Westbridge Logistics! He has compromised our intelligence networks, our financial keys, and our safety for a disgraced woman and her illegitimate bastards!”

The room dropped into a freezing chill. Daniel didn't raise his voice. He reached into his coat pocket and withdrew a sleek glass tablet, connecting it to the council’s primary projector screen.

“You talk about theft, Uncle,” Daniel said smoothly. “Let us discuss Pier 44.”

A financial spreadsheet appeared on the massive overhead display. Millions of line items blinked in real-time, displaying encrypted cryptocurrency transactions linking Victor’s personal foundation in Panama directly to the exact offshore accounts that had framed Rachel five years ago.

Victor’s face went chalk-white. “This... this is fabricated data!”

“It is signed with your private cryptographic key, Uncle,” Daniel murmured. “The very key Rachel managed to extract from your server before your men burned her house down. But that is merely business.”

Daniel snapped his fingers.

The side door of the council chamber opened. Mason Park stepped inside, escorting Rachel Park. She was dressed in an elegant ivory suit, her head held high, looking every bit the queen she was born to be. And walking beside her, holding her hand, was Silas.
