Chapter 8 - The Price of Loyalty

Ten minutes felt like an eternity inside the freezing warehouse. Nora sat tied to an iron pillar, her wrists burning against the rough hemp rope. A few feet away, Lucy was locked inside an old wire storage cage, sobbing silently while clutching Captain Carrot, whose newly sewn seam was smudged with industrial dirt.
Suddenly, the torrential rain outside seemed to intensify. The warehouse lights flickered once, twice, and then went completely dead, plunging the massive building into pitch-black darkness.
""What happened to the generator?"" Elena yelled, panic lacing her voice. ""Check the breaker!""
Before one of the guards could move, the heavy corrugated metal doors at the far end of the warehouse were violently ripped off their hinges with a deafening screech of tearing steel. A massive black SUV slammed through the barricade, its blinding high-beam headlights illuminating the entire room like an execution chamber.
From the shadows above the catwalk, a silencer hissed twice.
Thwip. Thwip.
Two of Elena’s snipers plummeted thirty feet from the rafters, crashing lifelessly onto the concrete floor.
""Fire! Shoot him!"" Elena shrieked, backing away toward the shadows.
Muzzle flashes illuminated the warehouse in violent strobes as the remaining guards opened fire on the SUV. But Vincent wasn't in the vehicle.
Out of the darkness behind the iron pillars, Vincent Calder moved like a phantom of wrath. He fired with surgical precision. Each shot from his .45 found its mark with brutal efficiency. Men dropped where they stood, completely outmatched by a man who had conquered Chicago's underworld through sheer tactical brilliance and unrelenting ferocity.
Then, a massive black-and-tan streak tore through the crossfire.
Bishop cleared a ten-foot gap, slamming his ninety-pound frame directly into the guard holding the key to Lucy's cage. The man screamed as the Belgian Malinois neutralized him in seconds, pinning him to the floor with bone-crushing force.
""Bishop!"" Lucy cried out in pure relief, reaching her tiny hands through the wire bars.
Vincent emerged from the smoke, his face covered in rain and blood, his eyes burning with a terrifying, unholy vengeance. He had taken a bullet to the shoulder, his shirt soaked in red, but he didn't even flinch. He walked straight toward Elena, who was frantically trying to aim her trembling silver pistol at Nora.
""Move and I kill her!"" Elena screamed, her finger tightening on the trigger.
Vincent didn't stop walking. ""You made a fatal mistake, Elena.""
May you like
""Stay back!""
""You forgot,"" Vincent said, his voice echoing through the chamber like rolling thunder, ""that I am not a businessman who uses violence. I am violence itself.""
