Chapter 10 - The Queen of the Underworld

Six months later, the Obsidian Lounge was buzzing with its usual Friday night energy, but the atmosphere behind the scenes had transformed completely.
Clara Vance no longer carried a serving tray or worried about making rent. Instead, she stood in the VIP section of the newly renovated lounge, wearing a stunning emerald silk dress that commanded the room effortlessly. The patrons still whispered in awe when the doors opened, but now, they whispered about the partnership that had reshaped the entire New York underworld.
Through a strategic, bloodless merger brokered by intelligence, leverage, and absolute authority, Lorenzo Moretti and Clara Vance had consolidated the city's syndicates into a legitimate corporate empire. Viktor Rostov was long gone, exiled across the ocean after his criminal enterprise was legally and financially dismantled piece by piece. Maya was attending one of the finest private universities in the country, completely healthy and thriving with the best medical care money could buy.
The heavy double doors swung open, and Lorenzo walked in. He wore his signature charcoal Brioni suit, his dark hair swept back, his cold steel eyes scanning the room until they found her. But the moment his gaze locked onto Clara, the ruthless, terrifying Capo dei Capi melted into a man deeply, undeniably in love.
He walked straight past the bowing managers and trembling investors, striding across the velvet room as if he owned the very ground she stood on—because, in reality, she was the only one who truly owned him.
"You're late," Clara said with a playful smirk, tapping her watch as he approached.
Lorenzo stopped in front of her, a slow, breathtaking smile curving his lips as he reached out to take her hand, pressing a soft kiss to her knuckles.
"Traffic on the bridge was terrible," Lorenzo murmured, his deep voice rich with amusement. "Besides, I was busy managing an empire so my favorite waitress could finally retire."
"I was never just a waitress, Lorenzo," Clara whispered, stepping closer, her eyes sparkling with fierce affection. "I was the only one who wasn't afraid of the dragon."
May you like
"No," Lorenzo said softly, pulling her close against his chest as the live jazz band swelled into a warm, triumphant melody. "You were the one who tamed him."
And in a city ruled by fear, love had finally won the throne.
