Chapter 26 - The Final Stand

Blinded by the cascading water and the sudden glare of law enforcement spotlights, Julian’s hired guns scattered into total disorientation. Julian screamed in fury, brandishing his weapon as he sprinted through a secondary emergency hatch toward the eastern canal drainage basin. He kicked open the rusted metal grate, expecting an unmonitored escape tunnel, only to find Nina Kowalski and Gus blocking the exit pathway under the amber glow of the access lights.

“Drop the weapon, Julian!” Nina commanded, her voice ringing with the razor-sharp authority that controlled chaos in trauma wards. Julian raised his revolver, his eyes wild with unhinged malice, preparing to fire at her point-blank. But before his finger could tighten on the trigger, Luca surged out of the mist behind him. With brutal, calculated speed, Luca locked Julian’s wrist, disarming the revolver with a sickening snap of bone, and drove him face-down onto the concrete floor, pinning him under an unyielding grip.

Dozens of federal tactical officers descended down the ladders, securing the remaining mercenaries and placing Julian in heavy flex-cuffs. Special Agent Reynolds walked up, holstering his weapon with a satisfied grin. “Clean sweep, Moretti. Every contractor, server hub, and offshore intermediary is in custody. The book on the Petrov syndicate is officially closed forever.” Luca stepped back, his chest rising and falling slowly as he turned to Nina. She stepped into his arms, their hands locking tightly together. The final lingering shadow of their past was broken, washed away by the cold waters of the lake.
