Chapter 24 - A Web of Strategy

Gathered around the heavy oak dining table at the Belmont loft, the family assembled their tactical response. Rather than falling into Julian’s crude trap at Pier 4, Luca resolved to fight with the combined power of modern federal law and Henry Kowalski’s architectural legacy. He brought Special Agent Marcus Reynolds into the inner loop, providing the FBI with encrypted communications intercepted from Julian’s offshore servers.

During an exhaustive review of municipal blueprints, Tommy made a critical discovery: the “master key” Julian believed to be an offshore banking cipher was actually an obsolete structural maintenance key for the municipal river tunnels designed by Henry Kowalski four decades earlier. Viktor Petrov had never buried billions in cash; he had simply utilized the steam conduits to bypass surface law enforcement checkpoints. Julian was hunting an illusion born of greed and misinformation.

Nina proposed a decisive counter-maneuver. They would supply the obsolete blueprints as bait, setting up an operation that would draw Julian and his entire mercenary crew into a controlled, isolated chamber beneath the river locks, where federal agents could apprehend them without firing a single wild shot near the civilian population. Sophie was relocated to a secure federal installation under the care of trusted friends, completely safe from the line of fire. As they prepared to depart, Luca took Nina’s hands in his, marveling at her composure. “Your father spent his life building foundations that held this city together, Nina. Tonight, his designs will help us protect our home forever.”
