Chapter 6 - Eviction on Luxury Row

While I was reorganizing the corporate structure of TechFlow Dynamics, fifty blocks uptown, Chloe Davenport was living through the most humiliating afternoon of her glamorous life.

The penthouse on the forty-second floor of the Azure Towers was legendary among high-society circles. It boasted a wraparound terrace overlooking Central Park, a private infinity pool, and a temperature-controlled walk-in closet larger than most suburban apartments. For eighteen months, Chloe had entertained her wealthy, gossiping friends there, bragging about how Richard Mitchell was wrapping up a multi-million-dollar deal that would soon make her the official queen of a Silicon Valley unicorn.

At 11:30 AM, Chloe stood in her silk dressing gown, pouring herself a mimosa while browsing online yacht catalogs, when the front elevator doors chimed and opened directly into the marble foyer.

Three uniformed city marshals, accompanied by building security and a team of professional movers carrying heavy cardboard crates, marched into the living room.

""What is the meaning of this?!"" Chloe shrieked, splashing champagne across her silk lapels. ""Get out of my home immediately! Do you have any idea who lives here? I will have your badges revoked by sunset!""

The lead marshal, a no-nonsense woman with twenty years on the job, held up a certified eviction warrant bearing the official seal of the state supreme court.

""Miss Chloe Davenport?"" the marshal asked flatly. ""This property is registered under Azure Holdings LLC, which was seized three hours ago as an embezzled asset under the recovery decree filed by Sarah Vance-Rothschild. You have exactly thirty minutes to collect your personal clothing and hygiene items. Any fine jewelry, designer handbags valued over five hundred dollars, or artwork purchased with TechFlow corporate funds are legally frozen under a court preservation order.""

""Frozen?!"" Chloe’s voice cracked into a desperate squeak. ""Richard bought those Birkin bags for me! He gave me that diamond tennis bracelet for our anniversary!""

""Richard bought them using corporate credit lines belonging to a company he no longer owns,"" Arthur Sterling’s assistant remarked dryly from the elevator vestibule. ""If you attempt to conceal or remove any asset listed on this manifest, you will be arrested on the spot for grand larceny.""

Before Chloe could react, the moving crew moved with terrifying efficiency. They began unhooking modern art from the walls, packing designer crystal into padded crates, and sealing the massive walk-in closet with police-grade tamper-evident tape.

Panicking, Chloe rushed to her vanity table, grabbing handfuls of gold rings and luxury watches and stuffing them into the pockets of her silk robe.

""Drop the jewelry, Miss Davenport,"" the marshal commanded, stepping forward and clamping a hand down on her wrist. ""You were warned.""

""You can't do this to me! I'm an executive! Richard will destroy you all!"" Chloe wept, struggling against the marshal's grip until cold steel handcuffs clicked around her manicured wrists.

Downstairs on Luxury Row, a crowd of socialites, paparazzi, and neighboring residents had gathered outside the lobby doors of Azure Towers. Word of the dramatic corporate raid had spread like wildfire across financial news feeds. When the elevator doors opened to the lobby, cameras flashed relentlessly.

Chloe Davenport was led out onto the public sidewalk in her stained silk robe, barefoot, handcuffed, and sobbing hysterically, with her basic personal belongings stuffed into two plain black plastic garbage bags. Her private luxury life had vanished into thin air in less than an hour, leaving her exposed to the cold judgment of the very society she had tried so desperately to impress.
