Chapter 9 - The Rebirth Of Bennett Logistics

One year after the trial, the crisp morning air over the harbor carried the invigorating scent of salt water and new beginnings.
The towering glass headquarters that had once borne Daniel’s family name now displayed massive, elegant lettering across its facade: Bennett Global Transport & Logistics.
I stood in the thirty-second-floor corner office where Daniel had once sat, looking out through the floor-to-ceiling windows at the bustling cargo ships unloading containers along the pier.
The dark mahogany furniture and leather whiskey bars were gone, replaced by light oak desks, modern art, and shelves lined with architectural plans for our new green-energy fleet.
"Quarterly earnings reports are ready, Claire," my chief operating officer said, knocking gently on the open glass door.
It was Maria Santos, a brilliant former logistics coordinator whom Daniel had repeatedly passed over for promotions because she refused to stroke his ego.
"How do the employee pension numbers look, Maria?" I asked, turning around with a warm smile.
"Up twenty-two percent across all regional terminals," Maria beamed, handing me a leather-bound folder. "The drivers and warehouse staff just voted overwhelmingly to ratify the new health coverage package. Everyone is calling this company the best workplace in the state."
"That's how my grandmother wanted it run," I said softly, looking at the small framed photograph of Eleanor Bennett resting on my desk.
"She always believed that true wealth isn't measured by how many people you can control, but by how many lives you can lift up."

My phone chimed with a notification from Arthur Vance.
The restitution payments from the liquidation of Daniel’s seized luxury assets had been fully collected, and the final wire transfer had just been forwarded to fund twenty new university scholarships for young women entering logistics and supply-chain engineering.
