Chapter 5 - The Stolen Millions

I stood at the head of the conference table, looking down the long row of board members whose eyes were now glued to the screens in horror.
"Over the last thirty-six months," I said, tapping the remote control to advance the slides, "Mr. Whitmore authorized seventy-two fraudulent consulting invoices to a shell entity known as Golden Horizon LLC."
The screen displayed bank routing slips, account numbers, and withdrawal receipts matching Daniel’s signature.

Daniel flinched as though he had been struck with a whip.
"Claire, wait... we can discuss this in private," Daniel pleaded in a desperate, suffocating whisper, the arrogant smirk from last night’s dinner table completely wiped from his memory. "We’ve been married for twelve years. You can't destroy our name over a financial dispute!"
"You destroyed this name the second you thought you could steal from my grandmother's legacy while treating me like an unwanted stray in my own house," I replied softly.
I looked at the assembled board of directors.

"I call for an immediate vote of no confidence to terminate the executive employment contract of Daniel Whitmore with cause, effective immediately, without severance."
Every single hand at the table went up in unison.
