Chapter 6 - The Eviction At Dawn

While Daniel sat trapped in the boardroom surrounded by corporate auditors, the scene at our Georgian estate in the suburbs was unfolding with ruthless precision.
At nine-thirty in the morning, two patrol cruisers from the county sheriff's department pulled into the circular cobblestone driveway, accompanied by a commercial moving truck.
The lead deputy, holding an expedited judicial writ of assistance, walked up the stone steps and rang the doorbell.
Patricia had rushed home from the corporate tower in a frantic cab ride, hoping to barricade herself inside the mansion she had boasted about at every society tea for a decade.
She opened the front door, her hair disheveled, her expensive coat wrinkled and askew.
"You have no right to be here!" Patricia screamed at the deputies, barring the doorway with her outstretched arms. "This is my son's private property! I will have the governor fire every one of you!"
"Ma'am, step aside please," the deputy replied with stoic professionalism, holding up the court order bearing the judge's signature. "The registered deed holder, the Eleanor Bennett Family Trust, has rescinded all residency permits for Mr. Daniel Whitmore and Mrs. Patricia Whitmore."
Two licensed locksmiths immediately stepped past her, carrying battery-powered drills and heavy toolkits.
Within three minutes, the front deadbolts were drilled out and replaced with high-security electronic smart locks.
Behind them, a team of professional movers began carrying Daniel’s golf clubs, designer wardrobe, and gaming consoles out onto the front lawn, packing them into cardboard storage boxes.
"You can't touch my things!" Patricia wept, clawing at a box containing her collection of porcelain figurines. "Where am I supposed to go?"

"You have forty-eight hours to collect your personal belongings from the licensed municipal storage depot, ma'am," the deputy stated, handing her a printed citation. "Just as your son instructed his wife last night."
Neighbors stood behind their wrought-iron fences across the cul-de-sac, whispering and recording video footage on their phones as the proud, haughty matriarch was escorted to the curb in broad daylight.
