Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Ambush

At 6:45 A.M., the seventy-second floor of the Ravenholt Tower was crawling with Manhattan’s most powerful institutional investors.
Billionaire hedge fund managers, retired state senators, and Wall Street power brokers sat around the elliptical glass boardroom table, their faces solemn and expectant.
Julian Vale sat at the head of the table in an immaculate navy pinstripe suit, his fingers steepled, feigning grave, theatrical sorrow.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the board," Julian began, his voice resonating through the recessed ceiling speakers. "It is with a broken heart that I present the forensic findings from our independent financial audit."
He pressed a remote control, projecting a series of bank transfer slips onto the eighty-inch display screens lining the walls.
"Forty-two million dollars from the clean-tech development trust was transferred to a private holding firm in George Town yesterday evening," Julian continued, wiping away an imaginary tear from the corner of his eye.
"The digital authorizations originated directly from the CEO’s private terminal on the seventieth floor."
Murmurs of shock and anger rippled through the assembled board members.
"This is treason against the company," growled Arthur Vance, an elderly board member who had served Scarlett’s father for thirty years. "Where is Scarlett? Why isn't she here to answer for this?"
"I'm afraid my niece has suffered a severe emotional breakdown under the weight of her responsibilities," Julian sighed with false regret.
"Security reported an embarrassing disturbance in her private quarters earlier this morning. For the preservation of the company's stock value, I move that we strip Scarlett Vale of all executive authority immediately and appoint an interim executive committee."
"I second the motion," a corrupt banking representative called out from the back.
"Before you vote on that motion, Uncle Julian," a clear, icy voice echoed from the rear double doors. "Perhaps the board would prefer to review the actual system logs."
The heavy oak doors swung wide open.
Scarlett Vale walked down the center aisle, her posture regal, her charcoal blazer sharply tailored, her eyes burning with lethal confidence.
Beside her, carrying a sleek black laptop and a heavy leather tool pouch, walked Lucas Hayes.
The entire boardroom fell into a stunned, breathless silence.
Julian’s smug expression froze, his champagne flute wobbling in his hand as he stared at his niece.
"Scarlett," Julian sputtered, recovering his oily composure with a sharp scowl. "This is an extraordinary closed session. And what is this... this common maintenance laborer doing in the executive suite?"
Lucas didn't blink.
He stepped directly to the master presentation podium, unplugged Julian’s wireless receiver, and connected his own diagnostic cable with a crisp, mechanical click.
"I'm here to fix a faulty connection, Mr. Vale," Lucas said calmly.
The eighty-inch screens flickered, Julian’s fabricated bank slips vanishing instantly.
In their place appeared the real-time routing diagnostic Lucas had extracted from the seventy-floor junction box thirty minutes earlier.
"What is this nonsense?" Julian roared, slamming his hands flat against the glass table. "Security! Remove these intruders!"
Vance Sterling stepped forward from the perimeter, his hand moving toward his concealed holster.
Before Vance could cross two feet, Lucas turned.
With blinding, military speed, Lucas caught Vance’s wrist in an iron joint lock, twisting the security chief’s arm behind his back and slamming his face flat against the marble credenza.
A heavy snub-nosed revolver clattered harmlessly across the floorboards.
"Sit down, Vance," Lucas whispered, his knee pinned firmly into the security director's spine. "You’re out of uniform."
Scarlett didn't even look at the scuffle; she walked directly to Julian's chair, tapping the center screen with a polished silver pen.

"The wire transfer was authorized from IP address 192.168.68.104, members of the board," Scarlett announced, her voice ringing like a bronze bell.
"That terminal belongs to Julian Vale's personal workstation on the sixty-eighth floor. And the offshore account in George Town is registered under a shell entity named Solaris Trust—whose sole beneficial owner is Julian Vale."
