Chapter 7 - The Unmasking Of Adrian Cole

A collective gasp swept through the Grand Hyatt ballroom. Adrian’s hand remained frozen in mid-air. The color drained from his face with terrifying speed, leaving him as pale as parchment.
"I... well, Mr. Mercer, I meant through internal channels—" Adrian sputtered, his suave confidence unraveling in real-time before four hundred colleagues, competitors, and subordinates.
"There are no internal channels that bypass my office, Mr. Cole," Ryan said, taking a step forward. His voice wasn't raised, but it carried the devastating weight of absolute authority. "What you actually did was corner Ms. Donovan in the regional offices, falsely claim credit for a promotion you had zero influence over, and manipulate her into believing she owed her career to your patronage."
Adrian began sweating profusely beneath the harsh ballroom lights. "Mr. Mercer, that’s a gross mischaracterization! I have dedicated five years of flawless service to this corporation—"
"Flawless service?" Margaret Hale interrupted, stepping forward to hand Ryan a slim leather folder.
Ryan opened the folder, barely glancing at the papers inside. "Last Tuesday, our internal audit committee concluded a three-month investigation into regional logistics contracts in Sector Four. Your division, Mr. Cole."
Adrian’s knees visibly buckled.
"Over the past eighteen months, you routed over four point two million dollars in supply chain contracts through a shell company registered in Delaware under your brother-in-law's name," Ryan stated clearly, each word landing like a sledgehammer. "You took kickbacks, falsified freight receipts, and systematically intimidated two junior accountants who attempted to file whistleblower complaints."
The ballroom exploded into murmurs of shock and outrage. Several board members shook their heads in disgust. Claire stared at Adrian, her hand flying to her mouth in horrified realization. The sophisticated, connected executive who promised her the world was nothing more than an embezzler, a thief, and a pathetic con artist.
"Security," Ryan commanded calmly.
Four burly security officers in dark suits immediately ascended the stage, positioning themselves around Adrian.
"This is an outrage! You have no proof!" Adrian shrieked, his voice turning shrill as the veneer of sophistication stripped away completely. "I built that division!"

"The Columbus police department and federal investigators are waiting in the lobby with an arrest warrant, Adrian," Ryan said, turning his back on him. "Escort him out."
Adrian was seized by his arms and dragged off the stage, his pathetic protests fading as the heavy double doors of the ballroom slammed shut behind him.
