Chapter 9 - The Final Ledger Cleared

The estate fell into a sudden, ringing silence, broken only by the hum of the air ventilation and the groans of the wounded intruders.
Gabriel descended the grand curved staircase step by deliberate step, his rifle lowered, his expression completely devoid of mercy.
Victor Rossi walked through the smoke, his sidearm drawn, standing beside his employer.
"The perimeter is entirely secure, Gabriel," Victor reported. "State police and our private cleanup units are holding the road. No one gets in or out."
Gabriel stopped in front of Salvatore Moretti, who was clutching his bleeding shoulder, wheezing on the broken glass.
"You broke the treaty, Salvatore," Gabriel said softly, looking down at his lifelong rival.
"You brought violence into a home where children sleep."
"Russo... please," Salvatore gasped, looking up into eyes that promised nothing but darkness.
"I'll give you Queens... I'll give you the entire waterfront... just let me walk."
"You don't own Queens anymore, Salvatore," Gabriel replied with chilling finality.
"As of twenty minutes ago, your lieutenants surrendered your territory to Victor’s men in exchange for their lives. Your family is finished."
He turned his gaze toward Richard Collins, who was trembling violently beneath the table, covered in dust and plaster.
"And you," Gabriel said, his voice dropping into a tone of pure disgust.
Richard scrambled out from under the furniture, groveling on his knees, pressing his forehead against Gabriel’s polished boots.
"Mr. Russo! Please! They forced me to come! They said they'd kill me if I didn't show them the house!" Richard wept hysterically.
"Maya is my wife! Those are my kids!"
"You surrendered the right to call them yours the day you gambled away their food money and ran like a coward," Gabriel said coldly.
He signaled to Victor, who stepped forward with a legal portfolio retrieved from the study safe.
"Inside this folder is a complete, irrevocable surrender of all parental rights, Richard," Gabriel stated, tossing the documents onto the floor.
"You will sign every page. Then you will be placed on a cargo vessel bound for South America."
"If you ever set foot on North American soil again, you will not find a courtroom. You will find a shallow grave."
Richard didn't even hesitate; he grabbed the pen from Victor’s hand with shaking fingers, scribbling his signature across every line without reading a single word.
"Get them out of my sight," Gabriel commanded, turning his back on the men who had threatened his sanctuary.

Victor’s men dragged Salvatore and Richard out through the shattered garden doors into the waiting security vans.
The storm had passed, the syndicate war was permanently won, and the ghosts that had haunted the Cold Spring estate had finally been exorcised into the night.
