Chapter 10 - The Moretti Promise

Six months later, the early summer breeze rolled gently off the sparkling waters of Lake Michigan, rustling the lush green leaves of the sprawling private garden behind the estate. White roses were in full bloom, their sweet fragrance mixing with the crisp summer air.

A simple white pavilion had been erected on the manicured lawn, overlooking the shoreline. There were no armed guards in sight, no shadowy figures lurking in the treeline. Instead, laughter echoed across the terrace as a handful of close friends and trusted allies celebrated under the golden sun.

Isabella stood before the full-length mirror inside the garden suite, smoothing the lace of her off-shoulder ivory silk wedding gown. Her dark hair was pinned up with delicate pearl pins, highlighting the soft curve of her neck. Resting against her collarbone was the Moretti sapphire pendant, gleaming with deep, brilliant blue fire.

A soft knock sounded at the door, and Alessandro stepped in. He took Isabella’s breath away, dressed in a bespoke charcoal tuxedo that broadened his shoulders, his dark hair brushed back, his handsome face lit by an unrestrained, genuine smile.

In his arms, he carried eight-month-old Sophie. The little girl wore an adorable white lace dress matching her mother’s, her big brown eyes sparkling with mischief as she clutched a tiny white rose petal in her chubby fist. On her exposed shoulder, the tiny broken-heart birthmark was clearly visible, a badge of honor and heritage that would never again be hidden in shame.

"Are you ready, Mrs. Moretti?" Alessandro asked, stepping up behind Isabella and wrapping his free arm around her waist, pulling her gently against his chest.

Isabella looked at their reflection in the mirror—the three of them united, whole, and completely safe. She reached up and placed her hand over Alessandro’s, her fingers brushing against the plain platinum wedding band he had put on her finger during their private civil ceremony that morning.

"I spent so long running from you, Alessandro," she whispered, turning her head to press a sweet kiss to his jawline. "I thought running was the only way to keep my daughter safe from the dark."

Alessandro looked down at his daughter, who let out a delighted baby giggle and reached up to tug playfully at his silk bow tie. He laughed, kissing Sophie’s soft cheek before turning his intense, devoted gaze back to Isabella.

"The dark has no power here anymore, my love," Alessandro promised, leaning down to capture her lips in a deep, tender kiss that sealed their past, their present, and their infinite future. "From this day until my last breath, you and Sophie are my home."
