Chapter 9 - Cleansing the Syndicate

""Father, please! It was Marco’s idea! He forced me!"" Vanessa wept, falling to her knees on the marble floor, completely abandoning her pride. ""We only wanted to secure Bianca's future! We did it for the family name!""

""Do not insult this family with your filth,"" Don Vittorio barked, slamming his cane against the floor with surprising vigor. ""You have broken the oldest law of the Moretti bloodline: we never harm our own children. Marco, you are stripped of your rank, your accounts, and your inheritance. You and your wife will spend the remainder of your days in permanent exile abroad, under twenty-four-hour surveillance. If either of you ever steps foot on American soil again, my capos have standing orders to shoot on sight.""

Marco hung his head in total defeat, unable to meet his father's gaze. Guards dragged the disgraced couple out of the grand hall as their daughter Bianca was quietly escorted to a prestigious private boarding school under Julian’s legal supervision.

The hall cleared, leaving only Luca, Julian, and their father.

""You did well, my son,"" Don Vittorio said softly, looking at Luca with newfound respect. ""A man who cannot protect his child cannot protect an empire. Bring her to me.""

Upstairs, the doors to the medical suite opened. Mia walked out holding Collins's hand, wearing a freshly pressed woolen dress. When she saw Luca standing in the hallway, her face lit up, and she sprinted forward on her tiny legs.

""Daddy!"" she cried, leaping into his arms.

Luca caught her effortlessly, hugging her tightly against his chest. For the first time in his adult life, the ruthless Don smiled—a genuine, warm smile that reached his eyes.

""Mommy is awake, Mia,"" Luca whispered, carrying her toward the recovery room. ""She wants to see you.""

Mia gasped, wrapping her arms around Luca's neck. ""Did you fix her bill?""

""I paid the bill in full,"" Luca replied with a quiet laugh. ""And I bought the hospital, too.""

Inside the sunlit room, Evelyn sat up against the pillows, her color returning, the steady hum of medical monitors confirming her rapid recovery. When Mia saw her mother, she scrambled onto the bed, burying her face into Evelyn's shoulder with joyful tears.

""Mommy! Daddy has lots of pancakes, and he has the other half of the lion!""

Evelyn looked up at Luca over their daughter’s head, her eyes shining with relief and gratitude. ""You kept your promise, Luca.""

May you like

""I always will,"" he said, taking her hand in his.
