Chapter 10 - An Unbroken Empire

One month later, the summer heat broke over Savannah, replaced by the crisp, golden breeze of early autumn.

In the master suite of the Holloway mansion, the morning sun poured through wide French doors leading out to the balcony. The room was filled with the soft, soothing sound of a lullaby humming from a hand-carved wooden mobile above an antique crib.

Grant stood by the window, but he was not scanning the streets for threats. He was holding a tiny, four-day-old bundle wrapped in a pale blue cashmere blanket against his chest. Baby Christian was fast asleep, his tiny chest rising and falling in rhythmic peace, a shock of dark Holloway hair crowning his perfect little head. The infant’s tiny hand was curled tightly around Grant’s little finger, holding on with surprising strength.

Jolene walked up behind him, wearing a comfortable robe of soft silk, wrapping her arms around Grant's waist and resting her cheek against the broad muscles of his back.

""Is he finally asleep?"" she asked in a gentle whisper.

Grant smiled down at their son, his heart swelling with a profound peace he had never experienced in his thirty-two years of life. ""Out cold. He fought the burping for twenty minutes, but he finally conceded defeat.""

""He gets his stubbornness from you,"" Jolene teased softly, kissing Grant's shoulder.

Grant turned within her embrace, pulling her gently against his side so they could both gaze down at the sleeping boy. Across the desk in the corner of the room lay the morning edition of the Savannah Morning News. The headlines told a story of total renewal: the city docks had transitioned completely into legitimate commercial shipping, Desmond’s offshore holdings had been liquidated to fund free medical clinics across the low country, and the Moretti family had retreated entirely from the state following federal indictments.

The Holloway name was no longer synonymous with bloodshed and fear. Under Grant's new direction, it stood as a symbol of unshakeable strength, loyalty, and protection.

Trent knocked softly on the open bedroom door, holding a silver tray with morning tea and a small leather-bound legal book. ""The paperwork is finalized with the county clerk, Boss. Master Christian Holloway is officially registered as the sole heir to the Holloway trusts.""

""Thank you, Trent,"" Jolene smiled warmly at the loyal lieutenant, who bowed his head respectfully before stepping back out and pulling the door softly shut to give them their privacy.

Grant looked down at Jolene, then down at his son. Five months ago, he had been walking toward a loveless marriage, trapped in a nightmare of manufactured grief, believing everything he cherished was buried in an unmarked grave. A single glance through a storefront window had shattered the illusion and led him on a warpath to reclaim his life.

He leaned down, kissing Jolene softly on the lips, then pressed a tender kiss to his newborn son’s forehead.

""Everything we fought for,"" Grant whispered, his voice filled with quiet triumph and infinite love. ""It was all for this moment.""

Jolene rested her head against his shoulder as the morning sun illuminated the room, washing away the last remnants of the past, leaving behind a family that was finally whole, safe, and truly unbroken."
